Back - Wimbledon School of English London Wimbledon

Roxanne Häfeli

I like Wimbledon very much because it’s not as hectic as central London. Nevertheless you can find many things here like cafés, pubs, bars, cinemas, theatres and a big shopping centre. When you want to go to the city you can get there in about 20 minutes. I think the school is very good and the teachers are professional. When it’s good weather you can eat lunch in the lovely garden of the school. It’s really nice here.

"Who is tired of life, is tired of London”. At the time, I had already heard this sentence several times but I understand its true meaning only now. A city where there are so many things to discover and see. In addition to the traditional tourist attractions, London offers a wide variety of musicals, theatres, concerts and other shows like no other city in the world. The Wimbledon School of English, where I spent 13 weeks, was a great school. The teachers were well trained and able to convey the course content in a light way and to give us individual support. I made a lot of progress. Besides, I met people from the whole world, which allowed me to develop extraordinary friendships. It was the best period of my life and I am looking forward to going back to this city where nothing seems impossible. Thank you, ESL!

I went to London Wimbledon from February to June (5 months). The name of the school is "Wimbledon School of English". This school is great! Beautiful from the outside (old Victorian house) and modern inside, yet decorated in the English style. It has a beautiful garden and in the summer, it is pleasant to lie down on the grass and talk to your friends. And my friends, in this school, there are more than 30 nationalities, so you have contact with cultures, languages and faces from various countries. Quite frankly, I rapidly made new friends because everyone is so open-minded. In my host family, it was great, I was lucky to stay with a mother who had plenty of time to cook delicious meals for me! She was always attentive to my needs if I had a problem or simply wanted to talk. So, if you want to go abroad, hesitate no longer! Do it now, as it will change you forever, you will get stronger and more confident (that’s how I felt when I came back!)

I opted for the Wimbledon School of English because it enjoys a quiet location, not far from the centre of London.
The school is very professional and relies on excellent teachers who plan lively and fun lessons. I learnt a lot while I was there.
I chose the “superior” host family accommodation option with private bathroom, 10 minutes’ walk from the school. It is a great advantage to be able to walk to the school and I can only recommend this option.
If I had to take another language course, I would choose WSE again.

I needed to improve my English for work, which is why I contacted ESL. The agency took care of finding the most suitable programme for my needs. I therefore went to London and attended a 6-week intensive course at the Wimbledon School of English. I stayed with an English host family. I felt like at home there and I could practise the language. The school’s teaching method and teachers were excellent and allowed me to understand the language much better and speak it more fluently. Not to mention the enrichment and experience related to getting to know another culture and other students from many other foreign countries.

It was, without any doubt, the best solution and it encouraged me to go back to London, where I now work and keep on learning the language. I can only recommend such an experience as it is unique and you learn a lot, on a personal as well as linguistic level.
