School

Located on the outskirts of a park in the city-centre, our partner school is housed in a beautiful 19th century building. Close to the train station, it is also only a few minutes on foot from the city-centre and the beach. The modern and comfortable classrooms are equipped with televisions and VCRs. A multimedia centre, language lab and library complete the facilities, designed to enable you to study in the best conditions. After classes you can enjoy free Internet access at the Hawley Club, as well as a bar with a pool table and piano, baby-foot game and television. In summer, the private garden offers a quiet and sunny place for you to relax and meet many new friends.

Accommodation

Host family
Staying with a host family will help you to get the most out of your time in Margate. This option, chosen by the majority of MLC students, allows you to discover the British culture and to practise your English daily. All the families are chosen with care by our partner school. The great majority are located a few minutes on foot from the school itself. A minibus service is organised for those students whose accommodation is outside of the centre of Margate. You will have your own bedroom, half-board during the week and full-board provided on the weekends.
Residence
Our partner school offers more independent students accommodation at “Culver House”, just near the school itself. This beautiful house was completely renovated in 2005 and provides a maximum of comfort. You can stay in an individual room, or a double room if you are travelling with a friend. There is a television and video player as well as a private bathroom.  The residence has WiFi Internet access, a modern and equipped kitchen and a garden in a private courtyard. It is important to book this form of accommodation in advance because the number of places is limited.

Leisure

Margate Language Centre makes it a point of honour to develop a rich and varied social life for its students. The Hawley Club, open to both students and teachers, is an ideal place to meet, talk, have fun and relax between classes, during meal breaks, in the afternoons and evenings. To complement the vast choice of sports activities that you will find in Margate, such as bowling, tennis, golf, horse riding, sailing, jet skiing and other water sports, our partner school regularly organises half or full day excursions to enable students to discover or revisit Ramsgate, Brighton, Cambridge, Oxford or London. Staying in Margate also gives you the opportunity to take long walks along the coast, to have a beer at the “Tartar Frigate” in Broadstairs (Charles Dickens’ favourite pub) and listen to a weather-beaten fisherman’s extraordinary tales of the sailors who were his ancestors, in a language imbued with salty sea spray and the great open air.
