I spent my three-month language stay in a school called International House. It was an excellent school with excellent teachers and a warm welcome. As for my English, I made lots of progress from the very first day. When I first arrived I would get stuck but you definitely improve by practicing at school, outside school and at home. It was certainly worth it as I was level A2 when I arrived and B2 when I finished, you can even take exams but you need to check the exact dates. It was a very, very good experience and what’s great about learning a language in the country is that you have to speak English, you have no choice but to speak English, and that’s how you improve.

The IH school is excellent. There is a great atmosphere and people are very friendly. Besides, teachers are nice, my class was good and the other students exceptional. It was a pleasure to go to school! My host family was nice to me. I could play with the son and it was a good way of improving my English. Newcastle is a big city. You can find everything in the town centre and it is easy to visit the city with the subway or on foot. There are also many pubs. If you are looking for a restaurant: there are all located in the town centre. You can find anything you want: Italian, Chinese, etc… And to finish with, the free excursion to Edinburg was great : the weather was nice, it is a beautiful city and there is a lot to visit.

Thanks to my company, I eventually got an opportunity to leave for Newcastle after two years of private tuition. It is a must for football fans and for those who want to make the most of English culture – that is, beers and pubs – will not be disappointed in Newcastle. In the North of England, people speak with a peculiar accent (Geordie). But don’t worry, people speak very good English. The school has a great location in the town centre and is easily reachable by bus or metro. You’re in for a great language course in Newcastle… Enjoy!

I very much enjoyed staying in International House - an unforgettable experience. I have improved my English, made new friends and visited beautiful places. I would not change anything about International House. I visited Edinburgh - a very beautiful city. I loved going dancing salsa. I lived with a host family and I would certainly recommend IH to my friends.

It is difficult for me to say in few words what my two-month stay in Newcastle was like. It was a beautiful, unforgettable experience. When I arrived in Newcastle, I didn’t know the city nor what it looked like. I stayed with a family who was hosting another Swiss student, which really helped me at the beginning. The family was very friendly and neither my roommate nor I had any problems with them. They talked with us a lot and we could even attend a family gathering, where we got to know them better. The school was perfect, I enjoyed going to class and I learnt a lot. The teachers and the staff were very friendly. Besides the school offers a well-organised activities’ programme.

But above all, I made friends with many people. I met students from all over the world and I lived experiences that I will stay with me forever. I have kept in touch with some of them. Newcastle is a university town and you’ll see young people everywhere at any time of day. It is a lively city and from there, you can visit many other places in England and Scotland. Another reason why I would recommend Newcastle is that there are many native English speakers there. You can therefore easily practice English because they are all very friendly and helpful with everyone. If you are interested in football, you can attend memorable matches and meet English supporters. If you want to learn English, go to Newcastle, you will like the city, learn lots of things and meet interesting people.
