School

Our partner school has two language centres: Shin Okubo and Takadanobaba. Both are situated at the heart of an extremely lively and cosmopolitan district to the west of Tokyo - Shinjuku. Exclusive cafés, inexpensive shops, cabarets, restaurants, amusement arcades, bars and nightclubs abound. The young people of Tokyo particularly enjoy meeting up to spend the evening in Shinjuku. In these two language centres you will find bright and spacious classrooms, a common room and an Internet zone. The small size of the centres will enable you to study in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Just three minutes away on foot, you will find Takadanobaba or Shin Okubo stations, which, thanks to the JR Yamanote and Seibu-Shinjuku lines, serve all of the districts of the biggest built-up area in the world quickly and easily. Finally, if you are lucky enough to be in Tokyo in the springtime, you can admire the ephemeral beauty of the flowering cherry blossoms, just near the school along the banks of the River Kandanawa.

Accommodation

Guest house
ISI-Tokyo offers you accommodation in a Guesthouse (Matsudo & Shiki). It’s the option most often chosen by European students. There, you will have your own little room; a desk, fridge and Internet connection are available on request. You share the lounge room, video games room, kitchen, Internet café, laundry and showers (Matsudo has a sauna). Allow 45 minutes by train to get to the school. It is important to book Guesthouse accommodation in advance (a minimum of 2 months before departure).

Leisure

After class, you will certainly find plenty to occupy your afternoons and evenings. Travel around Tokyo, from the Imperial Palace to the Electric Town of Akihabara, passing through the City of Dolls (Ningyocho). Do some shopping, learn about Japanese tea ceremonies, take a course in Ikebana or contemplate, your nose to the sky, the way-out designs of Metabolist architecture. Anything is possible in the immense capital of Japan.
The school will also give you ideas and advice on what to do and see: climbing trails on Mount Fuji, water sports in summer and hiking, ice-skating, skiing and snowboarding in winter. Ohanami, or “flower viewing”, marks the passage of winter into spring and is a traditional occasion to get together – in Ueno Park, for example – and celebrate with your friends.
