School

Our partner school is located on the ground floor, sixth floor and eighth floor of a nice, modern building in the centre of Tokyo. Easily reachable with the metro (Kudanshita, Jimbo-cho or Suidobashi), it has 11 spacious and bright classrooms, spread over the lower floors. The eighth floor is a large space, full of plants, which is open for students to have lunch or study before or after class. A traditional Japanese tea ceremony room and calligraphy room on this floor create a peaceful and authentic atmosphere. The school is in a business district which is home to numerous universities, shops and restaurants. You will therefore find all conveniences within a restricted perimeter. In the company of international students of more than 35 different nationalities, you will learn Japanese in excellent conditions. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the school as well as 8 computers for students, a small library, vending machine for drinks and hot/cold water dispenser. The Kudan Institute offers an authentic insight into Japanese culture, with events such as a graduation ceremony, speech contest and cultural exchange.

Accommodation

Host family
The school has carefully selected a network of host families ready to welcome international students. Students sleep in a single room with half board during the week and full board at the weekend provided. Japanese culture places great importance on hospitality. When a family receives someone, they do it well and are concerned for their guest. Therefore, do not be surprised if you are asked to return home at a specific time each evening. The families mainly live in the residential districts of Kanagawa, Chiba, and Saitama, around one hour's journey away from the school, which is a good average considering the size of the Japanese capital. Please note: you will need to allow for around 18'000 yen per month for public transport costs between your accommodation and the school.

Guesthouse/Shared apartment
If you wish to be more independent, and for a minimum stay of one month, it is also possible to stay in a guesthouse or shared apartment in Tokyo, around 25-30 minutes from the school by train. The guesthouse is popular with international students and Japanese people. Prices and additional information on request.

Leisure

After classes, go out and discover Tokyo, the largest agglomeration in the world, and allow yourself to be taken over by the magic of this city where everything is possible. Tokyo is one of the most lively entertainment places on the planet. Wander around Tokyo, from the Meiji Jingu shrine to the Ningyocho ('doll town') district, passing by the Electric Town of Akihabara; whether you're a fan of Japanese culture, or thirsty for shopping and the latest gadgets, the city will be able to satisfy all your desires. Jimbo-cho, Tokyo’s most famous secondhand book district is within walking distance of the school, as is the entertainment hub of the Suidobashi Tokyo Dome and the Kudanshita Imperial Palace, famous for its cherry blossom. The Kudan school is very well-located and allows students to easily get across the various districts of the city. In around fifteen minutes, you will be in the fashionable districts of Shibuya or Shinjuku or indeed in the district of Ikebukuro. The school offers an excellent range of activities in the city and its surroundings, including hiking at Mt. Takao/Fuji, a sport festival and ski/ snowboard trips in the legendary Japanese snow. The nearby peaks are ideal for biking, hiking and climbing. And if you really want to learn the Japanese way of life, don't forget the tea ceremony, flower arrangement, cooking classes, calligraphy or indeed to go to see a sumo match. If you are lucky enough to be in Tokyo at the arrival of spring, O-Hanami will be the very traditional occasion to have parties with your friends.

Testimonial

Vicente Belliure Torres You hear so much about Tokyo that during the first week, as you discover the city on site, you are almost disappointed. But as time goes by, you discover everything that is hidden and that you can’t see at first sight – and then you wish you never had to go home. In addition, there is a great atmosphere in the classroom and studying Japanese for 4 hours a day helps you to increase your Japanese ability day after day. You would like to come back even before leaving! Tokyo has 30 million inhabitants, which naturally brings about some inconveniences. But I would like to renew this experience. For now, what I would prefer is to… extend my stay.
