Located on the Southern Coast of the Shadong peninsula, the “small” Chinese city of Quindao (with a population of over 3 million people) has a peculiar recent history. The city was given to Germany for 99 years after an international crisis; fortunately, its cultural heritage is almost unspoiled. Its boulevards and avenues along the sea – with their excellent sea-food - and its Mediterranean weather make it a very popular holiday city. It is also the fourth port of China and it is known as a very dynamic city, as well as the birthplace of Confucius and of Taoism. It has an excellent public transport network, and its taxis are among the least expensive in China. You also have a wide range of restaurants to choose from. Many festivities take place during the year, including an annual local fair and a wine fest - Quindao is in an important wine-producing region.
