Located on the southern coast of the Shadong peninsula, the “small” city of Qingdao (with a population of 7 million people) offers a picturesque face. In 1898, during an international crisis, the city was yielded to Germany for 99 years. The legacy is more or less intact.
Its boulevards and promenades beside the sea – where you can taste excellent seafood - make it a very popular holiday resort. It enjoys a Mediterranean-style climate and is also the fourth port of China. It is known not only for its dynamism, but also as the birthplace of Confucius and of Taoism. In addition, the city has an excellent public transport network, and its taxis are among the least expensive in China. There is also no shortage of good restaurants. Many events take place during the year, including an annual fair and a grape festival, Qingdao being an important wine-producing region. If you would like to enjoy the surrounding green landscapes, you can travel around Lao Shan and immerse yourself in its history.
