Leisure

Multicoloured façades, baroque churches, impressive uneven paved streets, welcoming inhabitants, party music…welcome to Salvador da Bahía! From the fragrant and colourful treasures of the « Mercado Modelo » to the sparkling sands of the « Morro de São Paulo », and from Capoiera performances to parades of Batucadas, you don’t risk getting bored. In addition, you are at the heart of the famous « Barra » district, and at a stone’s throw away from the school, you will be able to enjoy as much as you like the beaches and a way of life which the Brazilians have cultivated to perfection. Leaving a place for "Acarajé com camarão", for papayas and for the sun…But above all, don’t miss the soul of the « Black Rome ». In Salvador de Bahía, African music and traditions are mixed into everyday life without losing anything of their original strength. At the heart of Salvador, there is a unique place, a « miracle », the Candeal district. A place that generates musicians of all ages and a model of social integration constructed by Carlinhos Brown. With music as its only weapon and a forest of over-powering rhythms, they resist with style against the bulldozers and the reinforced concrete and every day, they fix even more this African culture which is « transported » over the Atlantic from the Gulf of Guinea to the fertile soils of a Brazil which swore to « dance forever »!

« Revolution destroys, evolution builds, Candeal represents the construction of sense, of niceness and of goodness. We don’t want paternalistic actions, we want social change. Is it necessary to feed or to teach how to sow? It is necessary to learn and to transfer our knowledge so that every one can benefit from it. Humanity needs to dance together, to dance forever!»
