School

ITTC - the International Teaching and Training Centre - has been running Cambridge Certificate courses since 1984 and trained over 5000 candidates to certificate level and 400 teachers to diploma level. It is part of BEET Bournemouth; one of the UK’s most prestigious language schools.

ITTC’s brand new, dedicated teacher training premises are located in charming Winton, just twenty minutes from central Bournemouth on foot. The Victorian building has seven spacious classrooms, some of which are equipped with the latest audiovisual aids. Other classrooms have been designed without AV equipment to replicate the variety of circumstances in which language teachers work.

After class you can relax in the sunny garden, chat in the special teachers’ lounge or research in the extensive library. There is a dedicated study centre with free Internet.

ITTC’s staff are highly qualified and experienced teacher trainers who have worked around the world and within the UK in a variety of contexts. Many of the CELTA tutors are senior assessors or assessors for the CELTA scheme.

Accommodation

Host family
ITTC is situated in a residential area. Most host families live only a few minutes' walking distance from the school and sometimes a few minutes away by bus. Host families are carefully selected and represent without any doubt the best option to continue practising the language outside of class as well as a supportive, relaxing environment. They offer accommodation in a single room with half board during the week and full board at weekends.

Student house (from 18 years)
The school owns some family houses that have been converted and equipped in order to welcome students and teachers, some with a garden and barbeque equipment. Located around 15 minutes away from the language school building, all of these houses can accommodate up to a maximum of 6 people. Residents stay in a single room and share the common rooms and equipment, such as the kitchen, the living room with TV/DVD, the bathroom and the washing machine.

Leisure

Bournemouth is a vibrant university town set in beautiful natural surroundings. The local sandy beaches are great in the summer, while the nearby Devon countryside is glorious all year. Bournemouth town centre has a wide range of independent shops as well as the big names.

ITTC organises a busy leisure program for teachers. During the week, there are free events in and around the centre, including lectures, reviews, singing evenings and concerts. At the weekend, the school organises trips to London, Bath, Cambridge and other popular destinations.

The CELTA and DELTA are highly intensive courses and leave little time for leisure.

Testimonial

Carla Albo I have learned so many things. I am sharing my knowledge and experience – all the things I’ve learnt throughout my studies and my career - with others. You can interchange ideas and knowledge with... it’s constant. It’s a very useful experience. I encourage people to apply for these kinds of courses because they are really, really useful... not only to grow as a teacher but to grow as a person. As an individual, you experience a lot of different things. When I come back to my city I will try to share the knowledge acquired because I believe in sharing knowledge. The extra activities that BEET plans are nice: going out, sightseeing during the weekend. They provide a timetable with movies, trips to see live music at the pub and lectures. I would tell potential applicants about the experience of living here, meeting new people... going out! My advice to teachers coming to ITTC would be to be open-minded because you will meet a lot of people from all over the world. Also be ready to give everything a try and be open to anything. This is not just a course to improve your English... you learn a lot about life.
