41°16’ degrees of latitude…South!
Wellington is quite simply the most southerly positioned capital of our planet. At the junction of the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean, Wellington is very well located at the entrance of Cook Strait at the southern extreme of the North Island.
This city, founded in 1840, enjoys an exceptional location on the majestic and well sheltered bay of Port Nicholson. At the antipodes of Madrid, Wellington’s climate is pleasant and temperate. In a country where nature and the sea reign, the lifestyle is resolutely outdoors: jogging, rugby, sailing and hiking are integral to the lifestyle, and the national athletes, particularly the famous All Blacks and the sailors, are regarded as heroes. Its role as the cultural and artistic capital, and its intense commercial and port trading – as much with the South Island as with Australia and the rest of the world – make Wellington a dynamic, cosmopolitan and festive city where its decidedly a great place to live.
