School

Located in the heart of the lively old town, our French/English bilingual partner school, International Language Schools of Canada in Montreal, is based in a refurbished, historic building surrounded by shops, cafés and restaurants. The 35 classrooms are light and airy all with an outside view. The language centre has two multimedia rooms, a study room and two cafeterias. You will also get the chance to meet students from other countries in the many common rooms. Once classes are finished, you will be able to visit the city’s nearby museums, Notre-Dame basilica or go for a walk along the harbour.

Intensive Language Course + Internship
The programme is structured in two stages: the internship follows the intensive language course (during which you can take official exams). Before starting the internship, participants must have acquired a good command of the language (intermediate level required). It is an opportunity to practice your language skills in a professional sector you are interested in and to discover how Canadians work. The duration of the internship must be equal (or inferior) to the duration of the intensive languages course attended.
The average duration of an internship is 8 weeks, maximum 12. It is possible to do an internship in a company for longer periods depending on the sector (for example, engineering) but, in this case, it is very likely that the internship will be done in two different companies. For example, a 24-week internship will be made up of two 12-week internships (see extras). Most companies are SMEs, which means they are accessible and provide the ideal environment for an internship. From the start, trainees are in constant contact with their internship coordinators, including during the first part of the programme which takes place in the school. Coordinators get to know the participant, help with finalising documents such as CVs and cover letters and determine the participant’s skills and interests. They organise interviews with potential employers which then lead to an internship placement. Once the internship has started, the trainee stays in touch with his/her coordinators through weekly reports, providing feedback on the participant’s integration and well being in the company, language practice, tasks etc. To validate the internship with a diploma, the intern will need to hand in a final report signed by the company and will give an oral evaluation attended by his/her coordinators, an employee from the company as well as future interns and those currently enrolled in the internship programme.
There is a wide range of professional sectors available for the internship which is why it is essential to give 3 areas of interests in different professional sectors to guarantee your placement. Please let us have your CV and a cover letter in English together with a copy of your work certificates (if you have any) and/or letters of reference when you send us your enrolment form.

The programmes offered here are packages, including various language course + internship options, depending on the duration, goals and language level of each participant. Accommodation is only included during the language learning stage of the programme. For further details about accommodation during the internship, please see options and extras.

Accommodation

Host family
Canadian families are known for their warm welcome and for making their guests feel right at home. Host families live in the city’s residential areas, which offers a certain quality of life, but which means having to use public transport to get to the school. Students stay in single rooms and have half board or full board provided. This option is ideal for immersing yourself in the Canadian culture and for practising English in all of the situations of everyday life. It's also the opportunity to make friends for life in Canada. For more flexibility, it is also possible to book accommodation without meals included. In this case, you can still use the family's kitchen.

Residence, apartment
The school also proposes staying in a single room, without meals included, close to the language school (around 10 minutes away) in the YWCA residence, whilst in a private apartment, this will be at Place Lincoln.
