School

Canada distinguishes itself by one of the most well-developed course + internship programmes in the world. Effectively, this programme is already well-anchored in the Canadian culture, numerous organisations and companies play the game and offer places for interns from throughout the world. In addition, Canada, being the welcoming country that it is, represents the international environment par exellence, like Vancouver which, at the gateway to the Pacific, positions itself as the city of students from the four corners of the world.

Our partner school consists of four buildings, all of which are situated five minutes away from each each other. They are Richards Campus (main school building), Hastings Campus, Seymour Campus and Granville Campus. Each of these has its own style but all of them have this atmosphere of warmth and community in common which characterises the ILSC schools. Together, they have more than 80 classrooms available for students' use, several language labs and a WiFi connection. As for the 6 student lounges, these will allow you to relax and to meet and chat with other international students over a coffee. Finally, the central location of the school makes access to public transport easy and all that Downtown Vancouver can offer you.

Intensive course + internship
The programme is structured in two parts. The internships take place following an intensive course (during which you can pass official certificates). Before carrying out the internship, the participants need to have acquired sound language skills (level 6 recommended, see table). This is an opportunity to put your language skills into practice in a sector of activity which interests you and to discover the Canadian professional world. The duration of the internship must be equal (or inferior) to the duration of the intensive course taken beforehand.
The average duration of an internship is 8 weeks, maximum 12. It is possible to carry out longer internships according to the domain (e.g. engineer), but there is a strong chance that it will be in two different companies. For example, an internship of 24 weeks will be converted into two placements for two internships of 12 weeks, (see supplements). Most of the companies are SMEs, and are therefore available and offer an ideal community environment for carrying out an internship. The interns are in permanent contact with the internship coordinators from the beginning of their stay, meaning during the first part of the programme which takes place in the school. The coordinators discuss with the future participant, they are available to help add the finishing touches to documents like the CV and the cover letter and to define the domain(s) of interest. They put in place interviews with potential employers which lead to the internship placement. Once the professional experience has begun, the intern stays in contact with the coordinators by means of weekly reports which give feedback on the integration and well-being within the company, the practice of the language, the tasks, etc. In order to validate the internship with a diploma, the intern hands over a final report signed by the company and will make an oral report, which will be attended by the coordinators, a member of the company as well as future interns and those who are in the process of carrying out an internship.
The domains for carrying out an internship are varied and for this reason, it is necessary to communicate 3 centres of interest for the different sectors of activity to us in order to guarantee the internship placement. We ask you to please prepare a CV and cover letter in English, as well as to send us a copy of your eventual work references or letters of recommendation at the same time as your enrolment form.

The programmes are proposed here in the form of packages including various course + internship options according to the duration, objectives and language level of each student. The accommodation is only included during the academic part. For the accommodation during the internship, see options and supplements.

Accommodation

Host family
Canadian families are known for their warm welcome and for making their guests feel right at home. Host families live in the city’s residential areas, which offers a certain quality of life, but which means having to use public transport to get to the school. Students stay in single rooms and have half board or full board provided. This option is ideal for immersing yourself in the Canadian culture and for practising English in all of the situations of everyday life. It's also the opportunity to make friends for life in Canada. For more flexibility, it is also possible to book accommodation without meals included. In this case, you can still use the family's kitchen.
