Language school St. Julians, EC

School

The language school is contained within three buildings, two facing each other and the other a few metres around the corner, in the heart of St. Julian’s only a stone’s throw away from the main St Julian’s bus terminal. There are a total of 72 spacious, bright and air-conditioned classrooms, 12 of which are especially designed to accommodate small groups or one-to-one classes. Between classes, you can relax and enjoy the superb view from the rooftop terrace, or go to one of the cafés on the ground level. A language resource centre with video material, a library, computers with Internet access as well as a reading or study room are made readily available to you by  the school. EC proposes a complete range of courses which will suit as much students who wish to work intensively on the language (mini groups, one-to-one lessons) as those who need to  unwind and learn whilst adopting a Mediterranean lifestyle.

The programme is structured in two parts. The internship is carried out following English classes of a minimum of 8 weeks (intensive or Cambridge). The duration of the internship must be equal (or inferior) to the duration of the course taken beforehand. Before carrying out the internship, the participants need to have acquired sound language skills (level 6 minimum, see table).
The programme is open to participants aged between 18 and 30 years with at least a pre-university level.
Continuing your stay in Malta through an internship is the best opportunity to put the language skills you have acquired during the classes into practice. In this way, you will be able to consolidate your English level in a professional setting.
The internship period is unpaid and any compensation remains at the discretion of the employer. Most of the companies are SMEs which will nevertheless be able to propose varied positions to you like import export, business, administration, finance, marketing, design, engineering, etc...It may occur that our partner school and/or your future employer organises a telephone interview prior to your departure in order to already have an idea of your English level and of your aspirations. The orientation process (CV, interview, adminstrative legal documents) will of course continue during the first part of the programme which takes place at the school. The school will take care of your request for a work permit which remains compulsory in Malta whatever your nationality and even if you will not be paid. The coordinators will also be available during the internship period in order to ensure the smooth running of the stay. As an example, our partner school will put in place reports during and at the end of the internship in order to "measure" the progress made. You will also be obliged to keep a weekly journal relating your experience within your host company. At the end of your stay, you will receive an attestation with references on behalf of the employer.
This programme is proposed here in the form of a package (course + internship placement). the accommodation is only included during the academic part. For the accommodation during the internship, see options and supplements.

Accommodation

Host family
The best way to practise your English and to gain a better understanding of the Maltese culture is to stay with a host family. The school visits all of the host families to make sure that they are providing students with a warm, comfortable and friendly environment. The families offer half board and a single or double room. They are located between 10-20 minutes' walking distance or by bus from the school. In summer, the journey may be slightly longer.
EC also proposes the "up-market" option which will suit more demanding adult students. Private bathrooms, and a higher level of comfort and luxury are the elements which characterise this option.

Residence (recommended 18-25 years)
Our partner school has a residence located 20 minutes' walk or 10 minutes by bus away from the school. It is a refurbished 2 star hotel, which is simple but clean, comfortable and enjoys a central location. The Internet is accessible at a small cost thanks to the computers in the residence or with the WiFi connection. This option does not include meals on account of the numerous inexpensive restaurants and cafés situated nearby. Students can also use the common kitchen. They stay in single or double rooms. Each bedroom has a private bathroom.

Shared apartment (recommended 18-25 years)
The accommodation option of sharing with other students is proposed throughout the year. All of the apartments are equipped with a kitchen with a dining room, two or more bedrooms and a shared bathroom. It is possible to stay in a single or double room. Most of the apartments are located only a few minutes' walking distance away from the school, but during the high season, the bus journey can take up to 30 minutes.
Please note: a supplement is to be paid on site for air-conditioning.
