The programme is structured in two parts. The internships are carried out following an intensive course of a minimum of 4 weeks (during which you can take official certificates). Before carrying out the internship, the participants need to have acquired sound language knowledge (intermediate level required - A2 of the CEFL). This is an excellent opportunity to put the language skills acquired in an academic context into practice and discover the American professional world!

The internships are unpaid and last 4 or 8 weeks, the maximal period during which you can stay on American territory following an intensive course (student visa).

We organise placements in various professional sectors. However, internships often involve basic administrative tasks, with the primary aim being to allow the student to improve his/her English language skills in a work environment. Of course, you are welcome to indicate your preferred field(s) of activity in the enrolment form but we cannot guarantee that you will receive a placement in this sector as placement availability is contingent on quite a few factors – the skillset and experience of the student, the time of year the student is applying, the city the student is seeking a placement in, etc.

In order to participate in this programme, you will be required to do a pre-arrival phone interview in English, which will determine whether your level of English is sufficient to meet the course requirements. Of course, you are welcome to enclose your CV, a cover letter in English and a copy of your work references (if applicable) with the enrolment form.

The programmes are offered in the form of packages including various course + internship options according to the duration, objectives and language level of each student. The accommodation is included during the academic part only.

Accommodation

Host family
This is the ideal option for practising the language and immersing yourself in the New York way of life. The host families receive students in single rooms with half board provided. They live in different districts of the city, like Brooklyn or Queens. Some consist of single or retired people, others have children, young or a bit older. In order to get the school from where you're staying, it will take around 60 minutes.

Residence "MSM" (from 18 years)
The Manhattan School of Music Residence, located in the north-west of the city, around 25 minutes by public transport away from the school, offers a optimal and safe setting. Bedrooms are for double or single use and bedlinen is provided. The residence does not offer meals and it is not possible to cook here. However, you can eat at the school's cafeteria (except in summer) or take advantage of the huge choice of restaurants the city has to offer. Depending on availability, our partner school also proposes other residences.
