School

Our partner school is located in the very heart of Brisbane, right beside the cafés, shops and main attractions of the city. It shares the facilities of Martin College and has, as a result, very high-performance teaching tools. Free Internet access, a language lab and a library, a multimedia centre, a reading room, a common kitchen and a very nice balcony are at the disposal of the students who come from the four corners of the world. The modern school building houses bright classrooms which create a very pleasant atmosphere for studying. The size of the school allows for a fair distribution of the students whilst taking into account the various levels and aptitudes. The classrooms are comfortable and the teachers are qualified and motivated. The very likeable staff members of the school are always ready to provide students with useful information and the door of the Student Services office is always open. Moreover, the school proposes assistance for finding part-time jobs on-site.

Courses

Semester, academic year

The Language Year programme is designed especially for students who wish to follow a progressive academic course of study over 6 or 9 months. Based on continuity, this programme allows for structured, efficient language training and is therefore suitable for anyone wishing to study in an intensive way. It also involves more homework, giving you the opportunity to improve your skills according to your needs and to make fast progress. From level upper intermediate and upwards, it is possible to take a Cambridge course during the last trimester.

The programme is divided into 11-week terms, interrupted by 1-, 2- or 4-week breaks (holidays)*. Thus, the academic semester programme includes 22 weeks of courses (2 x 11) with a 1-, 2- or 4-week break (holidays)*. In the same way, the academic year includes 33 weeks of courses (3 x 11), with a 2-, 3- or 5-week break (holidays)*, depending on the time of year.

You can start a semester or an academic year with the trimester that matches your level. For instance, an intermediate student with a B1 level can complete a semester by enrolling in trimesters 2 and 3.

The prices include accommodation for the whole duration of your stay, breaks included (holidays)*. The courses consist of a total of 28 lessons per week, including 20 lessons of general English followed by 8 lessons related to 2 thematic courses out of several to choose from (at a rate of 4 lessons for each course)

Accommodation

Host family
In order to progress in the language, it is obviously a huge advantage to be able to share in the daily life of an Australian family. Not only will you learn how the "Aussies" live and what they do in their leisure time, but the informal contact with your hosts will make you feel at ease in English very quickly. You will reach the school, by train, by bus or by ferry, depending on whre the families are living, in an average of 30 minutes. You will stay in a single room and will receive half board. The bathroom and the living room are to be shared with the members of the family.

Residence "Allen Street" (from 18 years)
It is a simple and unpretentious accommodation that you will find a quarter of an hour's walk away from the course centre and the heart of Brisbane. You will meet as much students as tourists or workers who have their temporary residence in one of the two houses surrounded by greenery in a quiet district of Brisbane. Single bedrooms are available. Three common areas television, video and DVDs as well as an outdoor location for the traditional barbecue. Internet access is at an extra charge. Bedlinen is provided.

Adalong Guest House (from 18 years)
Students from throughout the world are provided with half-board accommodation in this guest house, which includes 25 single bedrooms. Only 10 minutes' walk from the city centre and the school, this accommodation is close to everything: the train station, bus stops and the South Bank Parklands are nearby. The building is surrounded by a well-maintained garden. Internet access is at a extra charge, and the same goes for the use of the laundry room. A common room with a wide-screen television for watching videos or DVDs, a landscaped garden and a glass conservatory will bring together the residents for animated discussions, always in English!

Leisure

At the weekends, it's time for fun! The surroundings of Brisbane are predestined for the numerous natural attractions in the area. Many sports activities are practised throughout the year. For those who like the sea, the Gold Coast or the beaches of the Sunshine Coast aren't far. And for fans of shopping, Brisbane is a real treat.
Every week, our partner school proposes diverse activities going from a video/popcorn evening to indoor football tournaments and full-day excursions (Dream World, Moreton Island), cultural visits and evening outings. There is something for all tastes! Some events are at an extra charge. Sport, including tennis, football, swimming and diving, is practised with fervour. Activities such as barbecue evenings, outings to pubs or group games will create contacts between the students of diverse nationalities.
