Courses

Semester, academic year

The Language Year programme is designed especially for students who wish to follow a progressive academic course of study over 6 or 9 months. Based on continuity, this programme allows for structured, efficient language training and is therefore suitable for anyone wishing to study in an intensive way. It also involves more homework, giving you the opportunity to improve your skills according to your needs and to make fast progress. From level upper intermediate and upwards, it is possible to take a Cambridge course during the last trimester.

The programme is divided into 11-week terms, interrupted by 1-, 2- or 4-week breaks (holidays)*. Thus, the academic semester programme includes 22 weeks of courses (2 x 11) with a 1-, 2- or 4-week break (holidays)*. In the same way, the academic year includes 33 weeks of courses (3 x 11), with a 2-, 3- or 5-week break (holidays)*, depending on the time of year.

You can start a semester or an academic year with the trimester that matches your level. For instance, an intermediate student with a B1 level can complete a semester by enrolling in trimesters 2 and 3.

The prices include accommodation for the whole duration of your stay, breaks included (holidays)*. The courses consist of a total of 28 lessons per week, including 20 lessons of general English followed by 8 lessons related to 2 thematic courses out of several to choose from (at a rate of 4 lessons for each course)

Accommodation

Host family
This is the ideal option for practising the language and immersing yourself in the New York way of life. The host families receive students in single rooms with half board provided. They live in different districts of the city, like Brooklyn or Queens. Some consist of single or retired people, others have children, young or a bit older. In order to get the school from where you're staying, it will take around 60 minutes.

Residence "MSM"
The Manhattan School of Music Residence, located in the north-west of the city, around 25 minutes by public transport away from the school, offers a optimal and safe setting. Bedrooms are for double or single use and bedlinen is provided. The residence does not offer meals and it is not possible to cook here. However, you can eat at the cafeteria (except in summer) or take advantage of the huge choice of restaurants the city has to offer.

Leisure

The school offers a program of sports, social and cultural activities. Given the enormous amount of leisure activities for all tastes that you’ll find in New York, very few activities are organised outside of the city. The Big Apple is the uncontested capital of Jazz and Hall Music, welcoming artistic creations among the most prestigious and innovative in the world. The artistic life in New York is as vast as the multitude of cultures that are represented there. Some even have their own district, like Little Italy, China Town or Spanish Harlem: all worth a visit. To get away from the urban atmosphere, there’s nothing better than going to the centre, to the lungs of New York: Central Park. Here, you can stroll around the forest, forget that you’re in the city, have a siesta by the lake, enjoy just about any sport, visit places of high culture like the Metropolitan Museum, or simply wander through one of the most beautiful and surprising parks in the world! One thing’s for sure, you won’t get bored in New York.
