Language school Enniskillen (Lakeland), Adventure Ireland (12-16)

School

Our partner school is set on the banks of the northernmost lake, which the Irish call Lough Erne. It enjoys a unique site of 24 hectares where used waters are treated with reed plantations, electricity is produced by solar panels and pool water is heated by a wood-burning heater.
The centre has its own indoor swimming pool with Turkish baths and sauna, two indoor and outdoor climbing walls, a multisports room that can easily be turned into a theatre for movie evenings. Ideally located by the lake, the centre provides facilities (pier, boats, canoes, kayaks, watersports equipment, etc.) and qualified staff to allow you to experience watersports in complete safety. What’s more, the centre has been welcoming young Northern Irish students on summer camp for several years: it is an opportunity for the international participants to meet and interact with English-speaking students of their age.
Finally, in this unique setting, the school is renowned for its “leave no trace” excursion, which is at the heart of the programme and encourages participants to take part in environmentally friendly activities.
It is the ideal environment to learn how to protect our planet while enjoying active holidays in total language immersion!

Courses

Standard English course Residence
Lessons: Course duration: 2 week(s)
Level: Beginner to Advanced
Students/class: 0
Daily schedule:

Lessons: 11 hours (in class) + outdoor lessons and activities
Levels : beginner to advanced
Student/class : max. 12
Schedule: 9.30 a.m. to 9.55 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The school offers an innovative language learning programme based on what the participants experience during activities: in the morning, for 25 minutes, your teachers will teach you the necessary vocabulary to make the most out of the activities of the day. Then comes the practice: your teachers will accompany you on activities throughout the day and encourage you to practice English and make progress. For instance, you will learn how to sail, how to make a film in the language of Shakespeare, or why it is important to clean one’s boat after each use in order to preserve the ecosystem.
In the evening, after dinner, you will meet your teachers to tell them about your day. These two-hour sessions will give you an opportunity to go over essential grammar points and vocabulary to be able to communicate in English. You will therefore have a chance to improve your English skills in a fun way while discussing diverse topics such as social networking, cinema, renewable energy or environmental awareness.
Like English, sustainable development will hold no secret for you!

Accommodation

You will either stay in the main building or in a bungalow, in a 4-bed room with private bathroom. Between classes and activities, you can chill out in the lounge of your bungalow or else in the large TV and games room. All of the meals will be served in the cafeteria in the main building. This is a unique opportunity to experience total immersion in the English language as you will join young Northern Irish students - who will be included in the group of participants from the four corners of Europe - for activities and meals.

Leisure

The activities will occupy you throughout the day and you will become such a skilful navigator that you will no doubt obtain your first certificate in canoeing, sailing and windsurfing. Of course, you will be able to practise many other sports like climbing, archery or football.
You can also show your artistic talents by making masks, pottery or T-shirts or else making short films in the video room, which is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and even allows you to add special effects. And then, you will have the opportunity to present your work to the other participants during video night!
To learn more about Irish culture, a full day excursion to Dublin will also be scheduled that will not fail to delight all shopping lovers.

“Leave no trace” excursion
Like Robinson Crusoe, you will set off for a 2-day canoe ride and camp on one of the numerous islands of the lake for the night. This will be a rich and unforgettable experience, an opportunity to learn technics in order to live in harmony with nature in an independent and sustainable way: lighting a fire, using wood to make a raft or a shelter, orienting yourself with the help of a compass… all the while being supervised by qualified activity leaders who know the area like the back of their hand.
