On Yale’s campus, be prepared to attend effective, quality courses, in accordance with the place itself. Most of the lessons take place in the morning and will provide you with essential tools to communicate fluently in English. Together with other students from all over the world (max. 15 per class), you will practise your English speaking, listening and reading skills. Under the guidance of skilled teachers, you will quickly acquire strong communication skills. Three afternoons per week, extra lessons will give you an opportunity to exchange ideas with the other students during exercises on current events. Outside a purely academic framework, you will work in groups on specific topics or in language workshops. These highly stimulating afternoon lessons will give you an opportunity to discover the contemporary history and culture of the United States through film viewings, songs and scenarios. In order to leave some afternoons free, two lessons will take place on the same day, which will allow you to take part in two half-day sports or recreational activities per week. You will enjoy a very attractive programme in Yale!

Accommodation

On the very campus of the university, 10 minutes’ walk away from the course centre, your residence offers all the comfort necessary for you to feel like at home. Separated by gender, the students stay in a small 3-room apartment (2 singles, 1 double) and share the bathroom (2 toilets, 2 showers) with the residents of another apartment of the same type. In the student lounge equipped with comfortable sofas, you will find a television, video games and books – perfect for building ties with friends from the whole world or research a topic studied in class. You will take the three daily meals with the other international students in the residence cafeteria.

Leisure

Strolling about in New Haven with your new international friends will no doubt take up most of your free time. Knowing that you are on the grounds where geniuses studied is an adventure in itself. The town is pleasant, easy to travel and fascinating for those who are interested in the culture and the history of the USA. Roller-skating, taking part in a bowling afternoon organised by the school or going to the movies with the other participants may also be part of your leisure time. The atmosphere is convivial and cosmopolitan; you’re going to love it!
The school offers two full day excursions per week. You will discover the thrilling cities of New York (90-minute journey), Newport and the regions of Rhode Island or the Hamptons, all of which will fascinate you, each in its own way. Cosmopolitan New York, with its plethora of attractions, is a must. You will also have the opportunity to go to the Six Flags amusement park – another dimension, new thrills! Your trip to New Haven will be simply unforgettable.

If you are of Swiss or European nationality, no visa is necessary to participate in the programme, insofar as you are in possession of a valid biometric passport which is valid for at least six months following your return date, in accordance with current legislation. Nevertheless, the student will need to get an electronic travel authorisation, to be completed on the Internet a minimum of one week prior to departure (credit card necessary for US administration file handling fees). New Haven is a great destination for a language study trip abroad. However, you must know that the journey to get there is relatively long with, generally, one stopover, depending on which city you are flying from. Most airline companies will be able to offer you an accompaniment service; therefore do not hesitate to contact us for further information. It is necessary, however, that the student feels capable of managing this long journey. Then, all he/she has left to do is to enjoy American life!
