Language school Tokyo, Summer programme

School

The language school building is located in the centre of Tokyo, in a thriving student quarter close to the university of Waseda, just a minute’s walk from the Takadanobaba subway station. It includes 19 well-equipped classrooms, in which experienced teachers will help you make quick progress in Japanese. You can access the Internet on the computers available on-site or via the school’s free Wi-Fi network. The summer programmes are geared to students from 14 years (average age: 20) and include Japanese courses, afternoon activities, weekend excursions as well as host family accommodation with half board. The school staff and the host families who have been selected to host beginners also speak English in order to facilitate communication ad learning. Accommodation

Host family
Students will stay with carefully selected host families living between 40 and 60 minutes away from the school by public transport. All of the host families will welcome you in a safe and friendly environment. You will stay in a comfortable single room decorated in the Japanese or European style and share the bathroom with the family. You will receive half-board and lunch will be at your own expense. This accommodation option will allow you to live in an authentic setting. But staying with a host family in Tokyo also means being immersed in the Japanese lifestyle. Sleeping at ground level on a futon, kneeling down to have tea, accepting that, in some houses, there might be no shower, or getting used to the food which, from breakfast on, is nothing like our western meals – in short, it means living a unique experience in an often unknown, but rich and ancestral culture.

Please note: this accommodation option is suitable for independent students who are used to big cities and know how to use public transport to go to school. Allow around 30’000 YEN per month for the bus/ metro/train travel pass.

Leisure

The afternoon activities will allow you to get familiar with Japanese culture through calligraphy, cooking workshops, movie viewings or else kimono fittings! You will also have the opportunity to visit Tokyo and its museums, discover Japanese hand-made products and go shopping in one of the city’s many commercial centres. On Saturdays, you will go on excursions to discover Tokyo and its surroundings, including Hakone, Disneyland or the Hakkeijima Sea Paradise in Yokohama. The activities are a great opportunity to make friends with other students from the whole world!

In addition, programmes B, C and D include a 3-day trip to Kyoto.

Programme C also includes a 3-day trip to Mount Fuji.

Information

Passport info
If you are of Swiss or European nationality, no visa is necessary to participate in the programme, insofar as you are in possession of a valid passport, valid for at least six months following your return date, in accordance with current legislation. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.

Flight info
Tokyo is an extraordinary destination for a language study trip abroad. However, you must know that the journey to get there is relatively long with, generally, one stopover, depending on which city you are flying from. Most airline companies will be able to offer you an accompaniment service; therefore do not hesitate to contact us for further information. It is necessary, however, that the student feels capable of managing this long journey. Then, all he/she has left to do is to enjoy the change of scenery!
