Long term study in immersion: Our references

Frédéric, 26 years

• Course + internship, Vancouver • Duration: 6 months

I spent 6 fabulous months in Vancouver and I intend to go back there as soon as possible! I began my stay with a three-month intensive course. Then, the school organised an interview with an architects' office who were looking for an intern. I spent my last three months there which gave me the opportunity to experience the Canadian way of life first-hand by using English all the time. I became really involved in the daily life of the company and presently, I feel very much at ease with English.

• Course + internship, Brighton • Duration: 7 mois

Before finishing my higher education studies and entering into working life, I decided to travel abroad to improve my English. Therefore, I spent 5 months in Brighton in total immersion in a pleasant and dynamic setting. I chose accommodation in a Student House which will remain an unforgettable experience as much on a human level as for my English. I met students there from all backgrounds to whom I became attached and who are now my friends and they came to visit me in Paris. At every minute in the Student House, you can find someone with whom you can speak and exchange your ideas in English. In addition, the "intensive course" option allowed me to combine classes in the mornings at the school with 3 free afternoons per week dedicated to the discovery of England and the leisure activities organised by the school. This experience brought me a lot as much on a human as a professional level. In fact, I also had the opportunity to carry out a 2-month internship in an English company, in marketing, a subject I am currently studying in France, In this way, I managed to develop my English with professionals and improve my listening comprehension and oral expression. In my opinion, such an experience cannot really be given value with words, it deserves quite simply to be experienced in order to realise exactly what one experiences.

Céline, 21 years

• Language study semester, England + Malta • Duration: 6 months

Persuaded by the idea of learning how to speak English once and for all abroad, I was delighted with the opportunity to combine my studies in two different countries. I began with a three-month course in Malta from January until March and continued with 3 more months in Cambridge, as soon as the spring arrived! ESL offered me the return flight between Malta and England which allowed me to see Malta before returning home, with my mind full of memories and an address book which was full to the brim!

Alexandra, 26 years

• Multi-language year, Italy, Germany, Australia, New Zealand • Duration: 1 year

I had been dreaming about taking a year of sabbatical leave for a long time and I took advantage of it to learn languages whilst travelling. ESL proposes a multi-language year which corresponded perfectly to my plan. Therefore, I began with a 3-month course in Rome, continued with a 3-month course in Berlin and finished with 6 unforgettable months in Australia and New Zealand. I couldn't even begin to resume a year so rich in experiences and encounters and in any case, being able to communicate in various languages is a reached objective!

Franck, 25 years

• Working Holiday, Australia • Trvání: 1 rok

As a French person, it was easy for me to get the working holiday visa in order to travel to Australia for a year. My aim was to be able to work. I was able to get by a bit in English before leaving, but it was thanks to the three months of classes I took in Sydney that I was really able to express myself and make contacts which turned out to be essential for the rest of my stay. I did various small jobs, in the cities and in the countryside, but I also took the time to travel in this vast and magnificent country.

Florence, 22 years

• Course + internship, Dublin • Duration: 6 months

For my law studies, I had to carry out an internship and doing it abroad allowed me to profit even more. I began with classes in order to sit the FCE (Cambridge First). During the course, I had interviews organised with law firms who were looking for interns. The first was the right one and I spent three months there which were very beneficial, as much for my practice of the language as introducing me to the world of work.

Roger, 32 years

• Course + voluntary work, Mexico • Duration: 6 months

Along with my girlfriend, we had hoped to travel abroad with the idea of doing something interesting and useful. With a love for the Spanish language and adventures, we travelled to Mexico for six months. My girlfriend was almost a beginner and on my side, I already had a quite good basis from university. Interested by everything that deals with social work and education, I then did the work experience programme for the following three months as a volunteer in a school for underprivileged children. This experience gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in the life of the country with a level of human and professional involvement that I would never have imagined. My girlfriend continued to study and after six months, she gets by very well in Spanish...as also in cooking, thanks to the option of Mexican cooking proposed by the school. An unforgettable six months!
