School

The EC programme

The English classes, numbered at 20 per week, last for 45 minutes each. In the summer, the daily schedule is organised according to a "zig-zag" system (in spring, classes take place in the morning). This means that classes take place in the morning of afternoon, every second day. When you have morning classes (from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.), the afternoon will be reserved for sports and water activities, and when the classes take place in the afternoon (from 1.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.), you will be able to benefit from the freshness of the morning for cultural visits and excursions. On the first day, you will sit a test to check your level, after which you will be placed in a class made up of students of the same language level. In order that you may study under optimal conditions, all of the classrooms in the school are air-conditioned. As soon as you arrive, the teaching team, the group leaders and the monitors will introduce themselves to you and will be there to accompany you throughout your stay.

Accommodation

Coastline Residence
The residence, which is in fact a superb 4-star hotel, which we propose represents a very pleasant accommodation option. Effectively, students stay in the comfortable Coastline Hotel, a few minutes' walk away from the lively St. Paul's Bay and the village of Buggiba, but above all, it is facing the Meditteranean and the magnificent Salina Bay. Each student shares a bedroom with 3 other students of the same sex. All of the bedrooms are equipped with air-conditioning, a TV and a telephone. Some computers with Internet access (paying) are also available. Bedlinen and bathtowels are provided, students bring their own beach towels. When it comes to meals, everything is provided for! The stay includes full board, consisting of a continental breakfast, a packed lunch and a substantial evening meal, in the form of a buffet. In order to get to the school or to the various sites of interest they will visit, the students benefit from the EC school bus. In the Coastline residence, a member of staff will pass by the bedrooms regularly in order to answer questions and to enquire about the well-being of the students. For even more security, ESL group leaders also stay on-site.


Host family (from 28 March to 19 April and from 03 October to 01 November 2009)
Staying with a host family represents an enriching experience which allows you to be confronted with practising the language in everyday situations. This accommodation option includes half board (morning and evening). At lunchtime, from Monday to Friday, students have a picnic at the school whilst at the weekend, the family offers a packed lunch which students take with them on excursions. Bedrooms are shared with other students, generally of another mother tongue (depending on availability), unless you would prefer to share with a friend. The host families are located in the region of St. Julians and Sliema.

Private bus service
The EC bus will come to collect you every morning at the residence or at a bus stop close to your host family's house, and will bring you to the school or to the place of an activity. All of the journeys are organised for throughout your day, until the evening when you will be brought back to the residence.

Leisure

During the activities, the group leaders will bring you to visit Malta. The island's Mediterranean climate guarantees you numerous and splendid seaside activities. You will be brought to fine sand beaches and a full day will be dedicated to an excursion, to the Blue Lagoon, for example. You will also be able to go on a cruise around the island in order to admire the legendary watchtowers which punctuate the coastline, the colourful fishing villages in the south, as well as the rock formations and the grottos which line the island. At "Malta Experience", you will see a multivisual display which will teach you things you didn't know before about the 6000 years of the fabulous history of this island. And you will still have free time left over to go shopping, go swimming, go sunbathing, or quite simply relax beside the swimming pool. At nightfall, a very dynamic nightlife begins. The school organises evening activities on the beach where you will be able to play volleyball, football or even enjoy a barbecue. EC will also organise large outdoor parties or discos (supervised by the school's staff), so you can danse and have fun with other students.
