Language school Salina Bay, Junior programme (13-17 years)

School
The EC programmeThere are 20 English lessons per week each lasting 45 minutes. In summer, timetables are organized in a 'zig zag' system (in the spring, lessons take place in the morning). This means that lessons take place either in the morning or the afternoon, every second day. If your lessons are in the morning (from 9.00 to 12.30), the afternoon will be reserved for sports or nautical activities. If your lessons take place in the afternoon (from 13.30 to 17.00), you will enjoy the freshness of the morning for cultural visits and excursions. Your language level will be tested on the first day and you will be placed in a class of international students of the same language level. All classrooms are air-conditioned so that you can study in optimal conditions. On your arrival, the teaching team, group leaders and those in charge of client service will introduce themselves and will be there for you throughout your stay.
Accommodation
Staying with a host family (spring: from April 1 to 15)Staying with a host family is an enriching experience which brings you face-to-face with language practice in daily-life situations. This accommodation option includes half-board (morning and evening). At midday from Monday to Friday students receive a picnic at the school, while at the weekend the family offers a 'packed lunch' which students take with them on trips. Rooms are shared with other students, generally with a different native tongue, unless you prefer the company of a friend. Accommodation in an individual room is possible depending on availability. Families are located in the St Julians and Sliema region.
Crown residence (from June 24 to August 19 2007)*
Staying in a residence (Hotel***/****) allows you to live in the company of other students and to make numerous friends. Rooms with three or four beds are all air- conditioned with a bathroom. Each room also has a telephone for receiving calls. You will eat breakfast and evening meals in the residence restaurant and you will be provided with a picnic for midday. The residence has common rooms and a swimming pool. Our ESL 'group leader' lives in the residence in order to supervise the students. The residence is at Bugibba, a superb historic village, near to the beaches of St Paul's Bay.
*from June 10 to 23 and from August 19 to September 2, students can be accommodated in a similar residence.

Private bus service
The EC bus will come to collect you at the residence every morning or at a bus stop near to the home of your host family, and will take you to the school or to the activity location. All journeys are organized for you during the day, until the evening when you will be driven home.
Leisure
Group leaders will use the activities to show you around Malta. The island's Mediterranean climate will guarantee you numerous and splendid seaside activities. They will take you to fine sandy beaches as well as on an expedition to Malta's famous Blue Grotto in a traditional fishing boat. One whole day will be dedicated to an excursion, to the Blue Lagoon for example. You will also be able to go on a cruise around the island to admire the legendary watch towers dotted along the coast line, the coloured fishermen's villages in the south, as well as the rock formations and caves which encircle the island. At 'Malta Experience' you can see a multi-vision spectacular which will teach you numerous new things about the 6,000 years of fabulous history of this island. You will still have free time for shopping, swimming, sunbathing, or simply relaxing on the lakeside. When night falls, a very dynamic nightlife begins. The school organizes parties on the beach and you will be able to play volleyball, football, or enjoy a barbecue. EC will also organize big parties either outdoors or in a disco (supervised by school staff), for dancing and letting your hair down with other students.Diving course with bottles
Malta is a paradise for diving. EC offers a combination of an English course and diving course "PADI Open Water" every afternoon, at the end of which it is possible to obtain an international diving certificate. This course is designed for beginners; it includes a theoretical part and practical exercises in the swimming pool, followed by dives into the sea. Those who already have some experience of diving can take the "PADI Advanced" course, at the end of which an advanced certificate will be awarded. The diving course lasts for one week.
