Linguaskill - English language test information
Who is Linguaskill for?
Linguaskill is an online assessment test which allows organisations and companies to check their potential candidates’ English level. Powered by Artificial Information technology, it can be taken at any time or place and provides accurate results within 48 hours.
Linguaskill can be used to test individuals based on different objectives. This means you may be required to either take the General or the Business option.
What does Linguaskill involve?
The Linguaskill test assesses all four language skills – speaking, writing, reading and listening – in modules, and results are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), the international standard for describing language ability.
Both of the options available for Linguaskill (General and Business) follow the same structure and include these modules:
The number of questions for this module is also variable, since the test finishes once Linguaskill has identified you level accurately.
The Reading section includes tasks such as reading a short text and choosing a matching sentence or phrase; filling in gapped sentences either from multiple choices or as an open gap-fill; and reading a longer text in order to answer a series of multiple-choice questions.
In the Listening test, you will be required to listen to a short audio recording and answer a multiple-choice question with three options; as well as listening to a longer recording and answering a series of multiple-choice questions based on what you’ve listened to.
You will first be asked to read a short prompt (usually an email) and will be given three bullet points so you can write an email of at least 50 words. You should spend around 15 minutes on this.
The second part includes a short text outlining a scenario, as well as three bullet points for you to respond by using the information you’re given. The type of response varies depending on the Linguaskill option being taken: General candidates will be asked to produce a variety of text types (e.g. review, article, web post) of at least 180 words for a wider audience; while Business candidates will be required to write a letter or a report of a minimum of 180 words, often to a manager, staff or company clients.
The Speaking test is divided into five tasks which include answering a series of questions about yourself; reading eight sentences aloud; talking about a given topic for one minute; speaking for one minute about one or more graphics you will be provided with; and giving short responses with your opinion to five questions related to one topic.

Some organisations or companies may only wish to check your level in certain skills, so you could, for instance, solely be required to take the Reading and Listening module.
