Recognition

The GDS is the most prestigious “German as a foreign language” diploma you can acquire outside of the curriculum for higher studies in interpreting or translation. The GDS has a high level of international recognition. The GDS is recognised and valued around the world by employers in the private and public sectors.

Like the ZOP and the KDS, the GDS diploma replaces the German admission exam for students wishing to enrol in a higher education establishment. In certain regions the GDS is recognised as evidence of the language level required for teachers from the European Union wanting to work in Germany.

Since 1962, the GDS certificate has been organised jointly by the Goethe Institute and the University of Munich “Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität”.
