Level required?

- All students who have followed 100 to 800 hours of lessons in contemporary Chinese and have mastered 400 to 3000 common words (the common words for the classes 甲Jia and 乙Yi) and the corresponding grammar skills (classes 甲Jia and 乙Yi) can enrol in HSK Elementary. - Students who have followed 400 to 2,000 hours of lessons in contemporary Chinese and have mastered 2,000 to 5,000 common words (the common words required for classes 甲Jia, 乙Yi and 丙Bing) and the corresponding grammar skills (for classes 甲Jia, 乙Yi and 丙Bing) can enrol in HSK primary and secondary. - Students who have mastered 5,000 to 8,000 common words (required for classes 甲Jia, 乙Yi, 丙Bing and 丁Ding) and the corresponding grammar skills (classes 甲Jia, 乙Yi, 丙Bing and 丁Ding) can enrol in HSK advanced. - Candidates who hold a “Certificate in Chinese class 3 level” (class A of HSK elementary or class C of HSK primary) or a higher level, can enrol in HSK professional [business, tourism and secretarial].
