*class 3: Level that must be obtained in order to sit for the HSK Primary/Secondary exams, as well as the HSK professional exams [business, tourism and secretarial]. It’s also the level required for students wanting to study at a Chinese university [scientific studies, engineering, agronomics and western medicine].

**class 6: Minimum level required by the Chinese Ministry of Education for foreign students wishing to study at a Chinese university [literary studies, traditional Chinese medicine].

***class 9: Criteria for applying for general employment that requires the Chinese language as a communication tool.

****class 11: Level required to be considered as an intermediate level translator.
