In the centre of Southport, a few minutes from the famous beaches of Surfers Paradise, our partner school sits in a very pleasant environment. You will make fast progress by following the teaching of high academic quality with a good range of course programmes. The campus is ideally situated close to the most beautiful beaches of the Gold Coast and in the centre of the student district of Southport itself, close to boutiques, cafés and restaurants with their very relaxed atmospheres. It is located 200 metres from the local tram, which allows quick access to Surfers Paradise and Griffith University, as well as 50 metres from a large shopping centre – Australia Fair with over 200 shops, movie theatres and food court. The 14 classrooms are all air-conditioned and offer a lot of space and brightness. Internet access is free via WiFi and you will also be able to use the computers installed in the computer room. A local library will allow you to borrow DVDs, to print and photocopy documents or to work in peace and quiet. Many varied restaurants and food courts are available within a 800 metre radius of Shafston College.

Do you think you've made progress?
« J'en ai fait, oui, parce que dès que l'on met le pied en Australie, on parle anglais donc j'ai parlé anglais et j'ai enrichi mon vocabulaire. J'ai fait des révisions et appris de nouvelles choses en grammaire aussi.Je ne peux guère mesurer car mon séjour était tout de même très court. »

Gold Coast – Australia’s City of Entertainment! It is not an exaggeration. Here there is constantly something to do and from October on, which offers summer temperatures – perfect to enjoy Gold Coast. You must absolutely try surfing, just for that the trip is worth it! In comparison with this active city, the school is small and has a family atmosphere. There is a café next to it – the ideal place to see your new friends or to eat together. It’s great and the food is excellent! Unfortunately few leisure activities offered by the school would get the students excited. In this area, there is room for improvement.

I just came back from 4 amazing months on the Gold Coast. It was definitely too short! The Gold Coast is the ideal place to learn English in a relaxed environment. I met so many incredible people from different parts of the world and I discovered new cultures. The school is medium-sized and that is perfect if you want to make new friends easily and participate in the activities. Teachers are very good and the courses are interesting and varied. The beaches are breathtaking and the nightlife has always something to offer. I didn’t have time to get bored. This was one of the most beautiful trips of my life.

I was attracted to the Gold Coast for its name, but I didn’t know much about it. I decided to travel to this unknown place and suddenly found myself in the craziest city I’ve ever been to. Huge buildings, restaurants, bars and clubs everywhere, but mostly… amazing beaches where I started surfing. Australians are extremely nice and warm, I soon got used to their accent! Getting bored or homesick is basically impossible when you live in such a lively place… I soon decided to stay longer. I did an 11-week course to prepare the CAE at Shafston, a small school with a nice environment and good teachers. We were nine people in the class, so the course was more intensive than a General English course and I’m very happy about my improvement. Of course, there will always be people who speak your language, but you have to try to speak English all the time… I did, and now I even dream in English!

If you wish to explore the Gold Coast and its surroundings by your own means, nothing is stopping you from throwing yourself wholeheartedly into outdoor activities which give the place its reputation including, first and foremost, surfing, which is practised with enthusiasm, underwater diving, jet skiing, kayaking, a dolphin watching boat trip, hot balloon rides or fishing trips on the high sea. The well-named Gold Coast will manage to fulfil all of your expectations.
