There's more to Wimbledon than just tennis! It's one of London’s safest and wealthiest districts with theatres, cinemas, shopping, sports centres, hundreds of cafés, restaurants and bars and great public transport... central London is only 20 minutes away! The school is located in the centre of Wimbledon, 5 minutes from the station, shops and amenities, and 10 minutes from the Village and its tennis courts. Established in 1964, the school welcomes students in a lovely, typically English building with a large garden. A multimedia centre staffed by a teacher offering extra English support is available, and there is free Wi-Fi throughout the building. During the high season, the school uses some additional classrooms, located 3 minutes from the main language school building.

Especially in summer season some classrooms were very tight. Several classes had to spend a week in another building, because there weren't enough rooms on the school. That was a bit unprofessional. Some of those rooms hadn't air-conditioners (and it was very hot). In addition the affected students weren't able to spend their breaks with students from other classes, which was a bit said. Some teachers were very entertaining, professional and empathetic. Only for one week I had a teacher, who made tuition dry and boring. I had very kind and easy-going host-parents. My time was very independent. Some guids on the weekend-tours seemed unmotivated. The musical guids, who brought us to the theatres didn't wait properly for the group, so it was hard sometimes to follow them in the rush hours.

Do you think you've made progress?
« I improved my fluency, my writting, speaking and listening. Also I was able to refresh some grammar and work on my pronounciation. »
School highlights
« The way of teaching of the most teachers. (Short-term teachers, who were there for just one week, weren't that good.)They cared very much and were really helpful. I appreciated sources like the study-centre, reception, garden and information-board. »

As I need English to enter the Lausanne catering college, I decided to do a language stay. I chose the Wimbledon School of English because, even if it is a small town in a big city, I was looking for a place with fewer distractions. Indeed, I am preparing for the Advanced diploma and that takes a lot of personal work. I have lessons every day in the morning and twice a week in the afternoon. I still do sports and I went to a few excursions with the school as it offers attractive prices! I live in a shared apartment, we are 6 and we share 2 bathrooms. The good thing is that it only takes 15 minutes by bus to go to the school!

I like Wimbledon very much because it’s not as hectic as central London. Nevertheless you can find many things here like cafés, pubs, bars, cinemas, theatres and a big shopping centre. When you want to go to the city you can get there in about 20 minutes. I think the school is very good and the teachers are professional. When it’s good weather you can eat lunch in the lovely garden of the school. It’s really nice here.

"Who is tired of life, is tired of London”. At the time, I had already heard this sentence several times but I understand its true meaning only now. A city where there are so many things to discover and see. In addition to the traditional tourist attractions, London offers a wide variety of musicals, theatres, concerts and other shows like no other city in the world. The Wimbledon School of English, where I spent 13 weeks, was a great school. The teachers were well trained and able to convey the course content in a light way and to give us individual support. I made a lot of progress. Besides, I met people from the whole world, which allowed me to develop extraordinary friendships. It was the best period of my life and I am looking forward to going back to this city where nothing seems impossible. Thank you, ESL!

The school offers a lively sports and social programme which includes lots of free activities – zumba & salsa evenings, parties, films, squash, badminton, basketball, football, other sports and, of course, tennis! Students love the weekly trips to the theatre & the visits on Friday afternoons to Camden Market, the British Museum & other attractions. Wimbledon is only 20 minutes from Central London by train, allowing you to take advantage of all that the British capital offers in the way of sightseeing, shopping, nightclubs, shows, concerts and other world-class cultural events. Around the end of June, the Wimbledon Tennis Championship gives you the opportunity to experience a great sporting event that gives Wimbledon an international ambiance.
