I decided to come to Chicago to improve my English, because in the near future, it could be necessary for my work. The course is very useful because we learn grammar and practise our speaking in a "fun way" and with other people from different countries. I believe that studying with other students from around the world is the best way to continue improving my English. Already from the second week, I felt that my English was more fluent. The teachers are always available to explain things to us and help us.

My 2012 stay in Chicago!

My 5 weeks in Chicago went too fast. It’s an almost-perfect city, clean and not too big. It offers a wide choice of activities; it is quite unique! I wanted to do everything, but I didn’t have enough time. The Kaplan school is ideally located in the heart of the “Loop” area, and it’s very well connected. It’s well organized and multicultural. I made friends from all over the world and we are still in touch through Facebook. Teachers are very professional, open and funny. They made us work without us even realizing; we laughed all the time!

The school organized activities to make us discover Chicago and meet the other participants. It was great!

As for the accommodation, the host family I stayed with was nice, but I decide to move out because I wanted to live more central. After my first week, I moved to the the “Loop” and lived in the heart of Chicago for the rest of my stay.

President Obama came to visit Chicago a few times, and each time it was very exciting… It was interesting to see how the city gets ready for presidential visits.

As for ESL, I can say that, since the first day, the staff has been very nice and organized. I am already thinking about my next language trip!

In Chicago, it can be hot and cold at the same time, and it’s always very windy. I highly recommend this programme and this agency. Thank you!

Host family
Staying with a host family in Chicago is without any doubt the best way to practise English and to immerse yourself in the American culture. Each family is selected with care by our partner school and welcome you in a double or single room with half board provided. The families live in districts where you will find several bars, restaurants and bookshops. You will need to allow for around 40 minutes by public transport to get to the school.

The Loop Apartment shared apartments (from 18 years)
Erected in 1927 in the heart of downtown Chicago, the Pittsfield building is the crown jewel of Chicago’s art deco period. During your language study stay, you will have the chance to live in this historic building, which contains over 200 shared apartments (with one, two or three bedrooms). Staying in a single or twin room, you will share the kitchen, bathroom(s) and living room with other international students. For your convenience, local phone calls and Wi-Fi internet facilities are free, as is access to the on-site executive-level fitness centre. Bedlinen and towels are provided. This comfortable, stylishly designed student residence is within walking distance of great cultural institutions, superb boutiques, verdant Millennium Park and Chicago River. The building is supervised on a 24-hour basis and coin-operated laundry facilities are available.

A city of hyperactivity, Chicago proposes a whole host of entertainment possibilities: shows, exhibitions, festivals and world-class sports events. During the weekends and after your English classes, you will have the time to enjoy numerous activities. Between the discovery of the architectural works of Frank Lloyd Wright, numerous sports activities (cycling, volleyball, ice-skating, walks, etc.), the visiting of museums and art galleries or the staggering Sears Tower...Chicago promises you a sensational language study trip! In the city centre, the streets abound with cafés, bars and restaurants, where you can meet up and have parties with the other students and young people of Chicago.
