Our partner school is located in a beautiful historical villa, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre, in one of Heidelberg’s most pleasant residential areas. In this charming building, which also houses a student residence, you will enjoy modern learning facilities, including 8 spacious and well-equipped classrooms, a computer lab, a library/study room and free Wi-Fi throughout the building. After classes, a large ground-floor lounge area with snack and drink machines invites you to relax with friends. The German school shares the premises with the European study centre of an American university, giving you the opportunity to socialise with students of all nationalities on the school's welcoming terrace or in the sunny garden.

IH Collegium PalatinumHeidelberg
Duration: 4 weeks

These 4 weeks in Heidelberg went by so quickly. The town is superb, just like the Castle with its breathtaking views, which you discover at the turn of sloping paths. I really enjoyed the fraternal atmosphere of the Collegium Palatinum; I quickly made friends of all nationalities, which greatly increased the effectiveness of the course. It was the second time I went to Germany with ESL (the first time was in Bamberg), so I chose to stay with a host family and I don’t regret it because I learnt a lot about the country thanks to the conversations with my "Gasteltern".

Well, my language study trip was simply wonderful at all levels! The teachers and the school were great, I learnt a lot while being in beautiful surroundings. The family with whom I was staying was really nice and all of its members were friendly, which made me feel comfortable, like at home. Not to mention the new friends I made and the many leisure activities that I would not have missed for anything in the world. Heidelberg is a small, terrific town. It was an incredible month, at the end of which I didn’t want to go back to Italy.

I had a great time at the school and I got to know a lot of new cultures and people, including fellow students from Venezuela. My host family was really kind. I had a lot of fun with my host brother and my host sister. We went to the movies together. I was well integrated in the family. At the beginning the course was a bit difficult, because the A2 group was already advanced. But when I achieved level B1, it was much easier. I liked Heidelberg a lot. It is a beautiful student city. Except for the weather, which was not so good. In the three months I spent there, I had very few sunny days. But it was fun to sit in the sun with my host family.

Using German outside of the classroom, in a socio-cultural context, is a great way to develop the language skills you acquire during your lessons. This is why our partner school offers students the chance to participate in a variety of activities and outings, some free or at reduced prices, both during the week and on weekends. Examples include tours of the historic town, museum and chateau, evenings at the theatre and concerts. Excursions are organised to allow you to discover other cities and the richness of the German culture: Michelstadt in Odenwald, the Roman cathedral of Spire, Frankfurt, Mannheim or Stuttgart.
