Kaiser-Joseph-Straße and the surrounding streets are Freiburg’s main shopping streets, where you can find the big names. Every weekday and Saturday morning, a large farmers' market at Münsterplatz (freiburg.de) offers a fantastic array of fresh food and flowers. There are also monthly flea markets and occasional night markets (open until midnight) at Messe Freiburg. In the city centre, many shops cater to the large student population, so new and second-hand bookstores are a common sight and the Kartoffelmarkt close to the Stadttheater has a couple of stalls selling various hippy accessories and clothes. From mid-November, the Christmas market takes over three squares in the city centre.
