Language course in Barcelona: Events 2018

ESL - Events 2018
12th April – 15th April 2018: Salón Internacional del Cómic
Many important authors visit each year this comic fair in Barcelona, but they are not alone, japanese rock stars and renowned cosplayers attend this event as well.

23rd April 2018: Diada de Sant Jordi
Roses and books are the main protagonists of this celebration of St. George in Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia. Men offer roses to women and women give books to men. The whole city is filled with flowers, literature and other activities.

13th May 2018: Spanish Grand Prix
Loud cars drive very fast around the Circuit de Catalunya. Who will be on the podium?

14th June – 16th June 2018: Sonár Festival
Sonár is possibly the world’s finest electronic music and arts festival. This is the gig that all the DJs and electronic musicians want.

23rd June 2018: Festa de Sant Joan
Not for the faint of heart, the preparations for Sant Joan see the streets rumble with the sound of firecrackers. On the day itself, there are bonfires and firework displays all over the city and the beach, running until dawn. Cava is the drink of choice, and is enjoyed in great amounts… so it’s a good thing that the 24th is a holiday.

5th July – 8th July 2018: European Balloon Festival
5,000 people visit one of Europe’s largest hot air balloon festivals in July. (

11th August – 16th August 2018: Festa de Sant Roc
Celebrated every year since 1589, the Barri Gòtic’s street party is centred on the Plaça Nova in front of the cathedral. Like the Festes de la Mercè, many Catalan traditions are on show including castellers and gegants. Celebrations take place in the days around the 16th.

15th August – 21st August 2018: Festa Major de Gràcia
The Gràcia neighbourhood’s annual festival involves a prize for the best decorated street, square and balcony. The planning takes months, so by the time the prizes are awarded, the neighbourhood looks truly spectacular.

September 24th 2018: Festes de la Mercè
Dwarves, castellers (human castles) and gegants (huge papier-mâché/fibreglass giants) take to the street in this enormous party to celebrate the patron saint of Barcelona. (
