I really like the way the lessons are structured, it is a good mix of talking, reading, writing and listening and the teachers I had so far were all very good at teaching. The teachers try to speak as little English as possible and explain everything in Arabic which I think improves the quality of the lessons a lot because you get used to communicating in Arab from the beginning on.  Unfortunately the teaching books are also just in Arabic which makes it hard to use them for self-studying but with the homework and the vocabulary we get during the lessons I get enough material to study at home.  Overall I am very happy with the lessons and I improved my Arabic a lot since I came here for the first time. I recommend everybody who wants to learn Arabic (MSA or ECA) this school!

28th of December 2012.
On this day I arrived in the Netherlands after one month learning Arabic in Egypt.

I followed lessons at the International House ILI in Cairo, the school for foreign students.

They treat you normal, just like in Europe or elsewhere.

I already had some knowledge of the Arabic language (fosha & darija), but not that much, and now I can make the link between Darija, 3amayya and al Fosha (3 variations of the Arabic language) because of the extra boost I got in Cairo.

I didn’t have to get used to Egypt, although I’ve never been there it felt familiar, but I can imagine that other people might need to get used.

I learned a lot, was classified at the appropriate level for the course and had a great time.

The lessons were fun and educational at the same time.

My teachers were great, very knowledgeable and friendly and just like family. A great experience.

So if you would like to take Arabic lessons sometime, I will advise you to go to ILI in Cairo!

As I noticed that my knowledge of the Arabic language was still not enough, even with several courses at the Popular University, I followed a friend’s advice and I booked a stay at ILI in Cairo. ESL made everything easier and I had a good relationship with everybody in the agency.

I can recommend the school in Cairo to all those who are not scared of making a learning effort (as the volume of topics to assimilate is quite impressive, but it’s feasible!). It took me some time to get used to the learning method, but it turned out to be very efficient. The whole ILI team was very kind and motivated, always ready to help, during the whole stay. The accommodation was very nice as well (I chose a shared apartment and I can only recommend this option, that allows “newbies” to exchange tips with their flatmates). Moreover, many excursions were offered, all at reasonable prices, and that has contributed to making the stay even more exciting (of course the well-rounded travellers can go as they like and discover Cairo the way they want). I never thought that learning could be that entertaining!

As a conclusion I would say that my stay at ILI was not only instructive but also rich with experiences. I always think about it with great pleasure and I can only give it several stars! It’s the reason why I plan to go on and do another language stay so as to strengthen in an intensive way my knowledge of the Arabic and Egyptian languages. With ESL – Language studies abroad, I have a highly competent partner by my side. Thanks to this agency, even those who go on a language stay for the first time have nothing to worry about.

With this account of my experience, I hope I made the search of people looking for a training leave easier.

The Arabic language, culture...a dream for a long time! And the reality is even more beautiful, more mysterious! When I arrived, I was a real beginner...now, I can hold a conversation. These six months were very beneficial to me. It's a splendid country! But it was the inhabitants who charmed me the most. When you know a few words in Arabic and you take the time, they are are so welcoming..and their festivals are so beautiful! I had an unforgettable human experience.
