I spent three weeks at The Liverpool School of English and I have to say that the experience was spectacular. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their English and meet new people. My residence was in the centre of Liverpool and 10 minutes from the school. The teaching level is really good and the classes are pretty participative which helps you improve. But without a doubt, the best part is the people you meet. To sum up, it was an unforgettable experience.

As I finished school in July, I decided to go to England with three criteria in mind: I wanted a full immersion (no French people!), a small city and an affordable price. ESL suggested the perfect destination: Liverpool!

I stayed at the comfortable student residence “The Arch”, a 5-minute walk to the school. The school is amazing; there is a nice atmosphere of harmony and discovery. Teachers are young, dynamic and helpful. I easily made many friends (Japanese, Italian, Spanish, German, Swiss) and we spent great moments together (pub, museums, parties of all kind). Also, the school organises weekend excursions, to discover the different cities in the surroundings. In 2 weeks, I improved a lot, and even when I went back home, I kept on learning with the book they gave me and through the different exercises on their website. In one word: go!

My booking experience with Antonio was great, especially in summer, when I went to the agency for the first time and he helped me a lot by suggesting different destinations. The second time, with Inés’ help I booked a course at the Liverpool School of English. During my first interview, I received many suggestions about English-speaking destinations, and in the end I chose Liverpool. The second time, we booked the trip. I chose Liverpool because of the good flight connection with Malaga. I really liked living in Liverpool; it’s a small, easily accessible city, where you don’t need public transports to move around and where there are plenty of things to do. Even if you want to visit some areas outside of the city, like Sefton Park, you don’t need to take the bus. There are shopping districts, but you can also find shops in the city centre and close to the harbour. Another reason to choose Liverpool is that it’s much more affordable than other cities, like London for example. I highly recommend the school, as English courses are much cheaper, entertaining, dynamic and catching than in Spain. During my second time in Liverpool, I could visit plenty of things that I couldn’t see the first time. All teachers are really nice and care about their students’ interest and motivation. The cooperation between teachers and school staff is also pretty amazing. The school atmosphere is fantastic; there are students from all over the world and all you have to do is meeting them all! There is a good nationality mix, so you can easily improve your English skills by speaking with the other students. Making new international friends is very easy.

My stay at Liverpool School of English was completely worthwhile. The quality of the lessons is excellent and the methodology that teachers apply invites the group to participate and practice their speaking skills, which is very useful if you’re looking to gain confidence in the language. The progress you make is noticeable because the lessons are quite intensive.

As to Liverpool, it is a very pleasant city. I explored it in my free time: I visited all the locations that The Beatles made famous, as well as the recently restored port or the shopping areas around the school. The city is worth it!

I definitely recommend this destination!

My language stay in Liverpool was incredible. I spent 3 weeks there, and it was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. Both the school and the residence (The Arch) were amazing: the staff was very professional and teachers were really good. When there was a problem, they were all very helpful. Making new friends was easy, both in school and at the residence; and I also met some nice locals who loved Spanish people! I highly recommend this city. With ESL, everything was perfect; it was my second language trip with them and I will surely repeat the experience.

What a great experience! I checked lots of offers online, but thanks to the travel consultants at ESL, with whom I could talk directly over the phone, I received answers for all my doubts. The day after that, we had a meeting in Valencia and I decided to travel to Liverpool, as they offered me a very affordable course.

I’m really enjoying my stay in Liverpool. My host family is very nice, they spend most of their free time with me, I can count on them if I have any type of question or problem, they have a very cosy home and make me feel comfortable. At school, my teachers are very patient and professional. I’m following an intensive course and I really like the fact that the groups are small, as it allows teachers to give individual attention. I’ve participated in after-school activities with the teachers, who are always ready to get out of the classroom and explore the city, have a coffee with students or go shopping. I still haven’t had time to see much of the city, but I love everything I’ve seen so far… I can’t wait to discover everything that Liverpool has to offer!

I have enjoyed my time here at The Liverpool School of English, it has been a very good experience for me. I have enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and practicing my English with them during lunch times and activities on the Social Programme. When I started at The Liverpool School of English three weeks ago I could speak little English just “My name is …” and “I live in …”, now I can have a conversation and I understand everything you are saying and asking me so I am very happy. Liverpool is a city with friendly people and lots of different nationalities, I love it. I would recommend Liverpool as a city to visit and The Liverpool School of English as a place to improve your English, I am pleased.

I’m Rocío and I travelled to Liverpool this July. At first, I started by looking for information about the different agencies, asking for quotes, reading about the different cities, etc. Then, after a lot of research, I chose ESL – a great choice, for sure! As soon as I can, I will repeat the experience, but I want to stay longer next time, as I was only there for 2 weeks, which passed really quickly.

At the beginning, everything is new: the family, the city… and you wonder how it’s going to go. However, as days go by, you start meeting people and even make a group of friends.

I’m really glad I had an experience like this one. I’d like to thank ESL, the family and the school for making it so easy and for being so kind. I recommend this experience to all the brave ones out there who want to see something different, discover new places and learn at the same time.

I had an incredible experience, because I felt confortable from the minute I arrived in Liverpool – both thanks to my host family, which was lovely and helped me with everything I needed, and to everyone at the school. The city is amazing… there’s so much to see and do there: it’s full of museums and pubs where you can drink a good beer. I never thought this would turn out to be one of the best experiences of my life. In fact, I’m considering going back as soon as I save some money and I might even look for a job there, because I totally fell in love with the place and its people. I want to thank my English host family and the school for making me feel so comfortable these 6 weeks – which just flew by –, as well as ESL for making things so easy for me. Thank you!

I love everything about this city: there’s a lot of culture and the nightlife is great. The school is always trying to help students and make their life a bit easier. I would definitely recommend Liverpool School of English because it’s something everyone should experience. My plan now is to find a job and start my new life in Liverpool.

My decision to undertake a language study trip in Liverpool was exactly what I needed. Never in my life had I seen so many different, interesting and friendly people all gathered in the same place! My host family was fantastic. Thanks to their 3 kids, I never got bored and I learned English in a very fun way! I also liked the classes very much: the lessons were very different from what I was used to. Although my stay lasted only 3 weeks, I made lifelong friends! I highly recommend to everybody to do a language study trip! Thank you ESL!

My experience in Liverpool was great and unforgettable. Liverpool has the typical stereotype of a gray industrial city of northern England, but is actually a very friendly city, with warm and welcoming people. Liverpool itself is small and offers the perfect combination of art, culture, sports, music and entertainment. There are plenty of interesting museums with free access, the Anfield Stadium and, of course, an excellent nightlife, with many pubs and nightclubs at a reasonable price. For music lovers, The Beatles can be found in every corner of the city.

I spent three amazing months in Liverpool, a welcoming and easy to know city because its center is not very big. The accent of its residents (Scouse) is not easy and it has different sounds in pronunciation, but eventually you manage to understand and be understood. This city has a great musical culture and every day there are pubs with live music (some of them are free and others have a reasonable price). Football is also experienced in a very special way. I think the language school in which I was, is very good and has excellent facilities. It’s located in the city center and is close to the main train stations. It offers a good social program, which is perfect for meeting lots of people and different parts of the city. They also organize excursions to other cities like York, Manchester, Chester and Conwy (Wales). You only have to pay the transport in some excursions, while others, depending if the entrance to some place in particular is included, you have to pay a bit more. I stayed with a host family and it was good, but I’d recommend staying in a student residence. There’s more freedom and you don’t need to use the public transport, as they’re located in the center. My experience was incredible and I encourage everybody to live something like this at least once in their life.

I chose to study in Liverpool because it seemed like a nice city with loads of culture and activities for students. I liked the size of the school, it is not too big so you are not just a number. The location of the school is perfect, close to the city centre and the accommodation. I liked the nightlife and the cultural activities organized by the school. My language stay in Liverpool was great! I stayed in a student residence and I think that’s the best option, because it was a 5 minutes’ walk from the school and I didn’t have to take any public transport! At school, the educational methods were excellent, teachers were very helpful and they provided guidance. Every week, they proposed some activities after the classes, to push students to meet each other (for example going to the pub, playing football or doing excursions, etc.). Liverpool is a very cultural city, full of young people: it’s the ideal place to make new friends. I will definitely go back in the future if I can!

My stay in Liverpool was unforgettable. It’s difficult to describe in a few words the student-friendly atmosphere. After the courses, we participated in the activities all together. Even though it was just a week, I made some new friends from all over the world. I chose to stay with a host family and I think that’s the best option because at dinner we would talk for hours. The only inconvenience was that the host family lived 20 minutes from the city centre and the last train was at 23:30. The school was very good and the staff organized many activities to bring the students together and make us discover the city. For example, the first day we visited Liverpool all together. I will definitely try this kind of experience again if I can!

Although I had only one week in Liverpool I enjoyed very much my short language study travel. Liverpool (initially I chose this town more for logistic reasons) is in fact a very interesting and extremely brisk city. Excellent shopping possibilities in the whorled city-center, and several animated museums give you a sight into Liverpool´s great history as one of the biggest seaports of the British Empire. Interaction with people from Liverpool can be quite tough as far as some of them speak a really strong Liverpool-accent, but they compensate very well by their kindness and helpfulness. Before going to Liverpool people told me that English food could be a bit disappointing sometimes – but I must say, the lady in my host-family was a very dowered cook and I learnt to appreciate some typical Liverpool dishes, for example the famous “Scouse”.

Public transports are well organized in the area of Liverpool, so it took me just 30 minutes to come to my school, the Liverpool School of English located in Mount Pleasant 52. The ambiance seemed a bit anonymous to me and, due to my advanced age (52 – so more or less twice as much as the average age of students in this school), I had only a few contacts outside the class. But teachers were well trained, experienced and prepared, and some of them made a- virtuosic use of the interactive smart boards with which all rooms are equipped. Any way: in only one week I could appreciably improve my English. Sorry, unfortunately I forgot to take photographs of the school. I´ll try to do better next time.

I am going to start my message by saying by saying that, so far, everything has gone great. I don’t have any complaints about my stay in Liverpool, on the contrary!
I can also tell you that this wonderful experience in Liverpool allowed me to discover an interesting, quiet and very active city. It’s a bit chilly and the weather is changeable but coping with it and putting on a warm coat is worth it to keep on enjoying this beautiful place. As for the accommodation, I feel very happy in my host family. They are very nice and they help me a lot. They play the role of guides and they are very patient when I communicate with them in English (I did not speak well at the beginning). They always try to make me feel at ease and happy… and they succeed!

The school is great too. The teachers are really very jovial and they help us as much as they can to learn the language. I noticed I made progress and I know that when I get back to Panama, my English will be excellent. The school offers many activities, which is good to meet new people. I met people who came from all around the world. It’s very interesting to know their culture, their gastronomy and their tastes. Liverpool is a small city where it is easy to travel around around. There are road signs everywhere and public transport is fast and comfortable. During my stay in the country, I had the opportunity to travel to other regions of England such as Manchester and London. Soon I will visit Ireland, Scotland and Paris! Don’t hesitate! Go and live this experience if you have the opportunity!

From day one in Liverpool, I realized that this programme was going to be an unforgettable experience. Three months went by and I must say I was not mistaken. The English teaching methodology of the school is really efficient, especially thanks to its educational material and also because its teachers and staff always listen to the students. There are very interesting places in this city that you must absolutely visit such as the Beatles Museum, the Anfield stadium, Albert Dock, La Caverna, the Anglican Cathedral. Moreover, I had the chance to meet new, nice and loyal friends. That allowed me to feel comfortable during my language stay in England.

Whether you like music, sport, art or culture, you can’t get bored in Liverpool. The city is full of interesting museums, rock clubs (the nightlife is incredible) as well as pubs where football lovers meet to support their teams, Everton and Liverpool. Liverpool is also a very beautiful city, mixing the old typical buildings of northern England with modern architecture. In spite of their very difficult to understand accent, I realized that the people in Liverpool are both simple and nice, always ready to help a lost foreign student! The school, which is located in the very lively student quarter of Liverpool, is small and the relationship between the students and the staff (from the director to the teachers) is so close that you feel at home. The teachers are mostly young and very motivated, some turn into real friends (at the end of the stay we went for drinks with some of them). In short, from the school to the city and the people I met as well as my progress in English, my stay in Liverpool will remain an incredible memory.

Liverpool airport is well-served by low cost airline companies. Manchester airport is also accessible and from there you can easily connect to Liverpool by train without leaving the airport: 14 £ for the return ticket. Tips as regards transportation: when purchasing train tickets, always buy return tickets as they are cheaper than single tickets. Travelling by bus to Liverpool is as easy as pie. To travel by bus, opt for a weekly pass rather than daily or monthly passes, which are more expensive. The weekly bus pass costs 12£ and allows you to use all of the lines of the same company as many times as you wish. Note that some buses do not operate, or operate more rarely, on Sundays.

Places to visit : Manchester, around 1 hour away by train. Chester, a beautiful Roman town, some 45 minutes away by train. Southport, some 25 minutes away with recommended stops to visit the beautiful beaches. And also London and other cities.

There’s no better way to learn English than to spend some time in a country where you can practise it, not only at school, but also with your host family or friends. Liverpool is the ideal destination for that. Liverpool School of English is a small welcoming school located right in the town centre. The relationship with the teachers is excellent and you can make good friends here because the school offers a weekly activities programme, giving you the opportunity to practise English in a relaxed environment outside of class, during an excursion, a city visit or over a beer with other students. The lessons are really great and you can also participate in conversation clubs, courses to find a job or reading workshops… Liverpool is a city that fascinates at first sight; you become a part of it even if you’re here only for a short time. Its cultural heritage is huge and there’re lots of cultural activities, sports for all tastes and friendly locals called “scousers”. Add in Liverpool’s extremely varied food scene and the appeal gets even bigger. I had an extraordinary time there and I only regret not going there earlier. If I get another chance to go back to Liverpool, I won’t hesitate a minute!

Liverpool is a highly cultural and welcoming city. People are friendly and accessible there, which doesn’t seem to be always the case in England. Museums are open to the public, except some of them like the Beatles Museum. But the school can get cheap entry tickets for you. The architecture is superb, with a mix of beautiful ancient buildings and new buildings with very modern design, which offers an interesting contrast. The town centre includes a pedestrian area with thoroughly modern architecture and offers a multitude of cheap and luxury shops.

From the bus station in the town centre, I was just 5 minutes’ walk from the school. My host family lived a 20-minute bus ride from the town centre and provided me with quality accommodation. The meals were very convivial, generous and excellent. The house was well-designed, spacious and practical. My host, who was remarkably friendly, gave us advice on public transport and places to visit. She picked me up at the station on the day I arrived. She took her role very seriously and made Internet access available to us from time to time. She also provided newly arrived students with testimonials and advice written by former students in their own language. I stayed there at the same time as a young woman from Latvia, with whom I made friends. We could only speak in English together, which allowed me to improve my speaking skills.

Going abroad for a language study trip is an experience that everyone should live. You make extraordinary progress because you start speaking right away, you lose your fear to speak English with native or non native people, and you learn how to understand and be understood in English! But above all, living in a foreign country allows you to meet people who are very different from you and to realise that in this world, what unites us is communication, knowing how to live together and respecting each other. So you are not afraid to go out abroad anymore, and if you’re in Liverpool, I can assure you that you will learn lots of things and have a wonderful stay. To conclude, I would like to thank ESL for its organisation and the friendliness of its staff and for offering me an unforgettable experience.

Before leaving, as before any trip, I was scared and nervous, but when I arrived, even as I got off the plane, I was overwhelmed by positive VIBRATIONS! The school was truly international, I had the chance to spend time with people from radically different backgrounds, which was one of my primary objectives, in addition to learning English. You cannot learn a new language in only 6 weeks but I am the living proof that « where there’s a will, there’s a way »!
