21st February – 25th February 2020: Carnival
With events held mainly in Valletta, Nadur, Gozo and Floriana, Carnival is one of the big dates in the Maltese calendar. Dancing, music, floats and shows bring jollity to the streets.
24th April – 5th May 2020: Malta International Fireworks festival
Held in Marsaxlokk, Golden Bay and the beautiful Grand Harbour in Valletta, the Malta Fireworks Festival invites international teams to set fireworks displays to music.
19th June – 20th June 2020: Għanafest
Għana is the Maltese name for the island’s own folk music. Each June, this 3-day festival presents a programme of different styles from local musicians, specially folk singing, but it also receives artists from various countries in the Mediterranean.
19th June – 4th July 2020: Malta Arts Festival
Enjoy a large selection of performances by top Maltese and international artists in venues such as the Mediterranean Conference Centre, the MITP Theatre and the St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta. Many events are free.
13th July – 18th July 2020: Malta International Jazz Festival
Including a line-up of top Maltese and international artists from places such as Brazil, Africa and the Middle East, the festival presents an eclectic mix of jazz styles.
21st September 2020: Independence Day
Parties and fireworks all over the island to celebrate Malta’s independence after centuries of dominance by other countries, most recently Britain. The day starts with a solemn mass at St John’s Co-cathedral.
October – November 2020: Festival Mediterranea
This annual celebration takes place on the mythical island of Gozo and it offers its visitors a wide selection of events: opera and other concerts, conferences, walks and talks in ancient and historic places, field trips, food and drink events and art exhibitions.
