17th November 2019 – 29th March 2020: Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts
What could be more enjoyable than listening to live music with a picnic, cold drinks and good friends in the beautiful surroundings of Kirstenbosch Gardens?
2nd January 2020: The Cape Minstrel Carnival
This annual carnival, also called the “Kaapse Klopse”, has seen revellers taking to the streets since the mid-1800s when Malay slaves spent their annual day off singing, dancing and performing in the streets of Cape Town. The modern carnival is a huge party starting in District Six and enjoys the nickname “tweede Nuwe Jaar”, meaning “second New Year” in Afrikaans.
8th March 2020: The Cape Argus Cycle Tour
Originally started to highlight the lack of cycle paths in South Africa, this has swelled into a major annual event. The 109km race through the picturesque landscapes around the Cape is the largest individually timed cycle event in the world.
27th March – 28th March 2020: Cape Town International Jazz Festival
Five stages, forty performers – an equal mix of African and international musicians – and some of the best jazz to be heard on the continent. Everything from classic jazz and funk to spoken-word and Afropop is performed over two days to an audience as diverse as the jazz styles themselves.
10th April 2020: Two Oceans Marathon
20,000 participants take on 56 kilometres of open road and challenging mountain climbs. The race passes both the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.
27th April – 3rd May 2020: AfrikaBurn
An annual festival based on the ‘Burning Man’ festival in America. This is a very unique event in the desert.
2nd October – 4th October 2020: Rocking the Daisies
The main rock festival in Cape Town in October brings in a crowd of about 30,000 people per event.
