8th February 2020: Chinese New Year Festival
A San Francisco tradition since just after the Gold Rush, the parade includes “Gum Lung” – a giant dragon that needs more than 100 people to operate. A spectacular day among the city’s large Chinese community.
8th April – 21st May 2020: San Francisco International Film Festival
Short films, documentaries, animations and student films are shown in this festival that is held since 1957. This event is as a platform for those movies that were not commercially distributed in the USA and receives works from the best artists in international cinema.
7th June 2020: Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon
Although this competition is recommended only for experienced triathletes, it really is a great spectacle to watch. It consists in a 2.4 km swim from Alcatraz Island to the San Francisco shoreline, a 29 km hilly bike ride and a 13 km trail run through the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
June 2020: Union Street Festival
The Union Street Festival is one of San Francisco’s largest free annual events with more than 100,000 attendees. Two stages blast out laid-back jazz and soul, while the street is filled with art and stalls.
27th June – 28th June 2020: Pride
With over 200 parade contingents, 300 exhibitors, and more than 20 stages and venues, the annual Pride parade and festival in the USA’s LGBT capital is a big thing!
12th October 2020: San Francisco Street Food Festival
The event brings together more than 70 micro-entrepreneurs, informal food vendors and renowned chefs to celebrate and promote great street food.
18th October 2020: Opera in the Park
50,000 opera fans attend this free event that takes place in Sharon Meadow Park. It was conceived to make opera more accessible to the general public. Take your picnic basket and a bottle of wine and settle in for an afternoon of quality entertainment.
