The Battle of the Year (BOTY) is a high-energy, high-stakes hip hop and breakdance competition between the best dance crews in France. Don’t forget to use your student card for discounted admission!
20th May – 24th May 2020: International Festival of Extreme Sports (FISE)
Touted as “the largest freestyle sports event in Europe”, this high adrenaline event includes BMX bike racing, motocross, slopestyle mountain biking, skateboarding, roller blading and wakeboarding, all backed up by a stellar soundtrack with live DJ’s and an amazing atmosphere! Passes are free, but you do have to download one to get access to the stands.
29th May – 27th June 2020: Le Printemps des Comédiens theatre festival
This fabulous theatre festival encompasses circus, cabaret, theatre and musical performances all against the breathtaking backdrop of the Domaine d’O gardens. With shows in the Domain d’O theatre, in an outdoor amphitheatre and under the twinkling rope lights hung throughout the gardens, this is a totally unique way to experience theatre!
9th June – 14th June 2020: Live Architecture Festival
A fantastic juxtaposition of modern and historic architecture, this festival will allow you to experience contemporary works of art and installations in some of Montpellier’s most historic buildings. It’s an amazing way to discover parts of the city normally behind closed doors!
20th June – 8th July 2020: Montpellier International Dance Festival
Take advantage to visit some of the free shows that are part of this massive dance event. With the participation of 300+ dance companies, there’s something for everyone!
10th July – 30th July 2020: Tohu-Bohu Electronic Music Festival
What’s better than a summertime electronic music festival? Some of France’s best DJ’s head to the Place Georges Frêche for 3 days of free music.
8th September – 20th September 2020: Arabesque Festival
Highlighting France’s multiculturalism, this festival dedicated to Arab arts incorporates music, dance, theatre, film, storytelling and calligraphy in the park and theatre of the Domaine d’O.
16th October – 24th October 2020: International Festival of Mediterranean Cinema (Cinémed)
After the Cannes Film Festival, this is France’s most important cinema event. With screenings all over the city, famous actors and red carpets, parties and more, this is a great time to be in Montpellier!
November 2020: Enlightened City
This incredible festival of light and sound illuminates Montpellier for 3 nights in late autumn. Check out the light projections on some of Montpellier’s most famous buildings plus music and more.
1st December– 28th December 2020: Les Hivernales de Montpellier (Christmas markets)
Montpellier is enchanting in December with its charming Christmas market in the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle park and the Place Laissac. Visit the park at night when it comes to life with Christmas lights and shop for gifts among the artisan stalls selling local products. You can also try out the carnival attractions, catch a free show and warm up with a steaming cup of vin chaud (hot wine).
