Events 2020 - Don't miss out on what the city has to offer!

ESL - Events 2020
20th February – 26th February 2020: Karneval
So Carnival isn't really a Hamburg tradition – thanks Martin Luther – but the locals saw how much fun is had each year in Cologne and decided to borrow Carnival and make it their own. The biggest celebration in Hamburg is at the town hall (Rathaus), while the LiLaBe party is very popular among students.

8th May - 11th May 2020: Hafengeburtstag
The Hamburg Port Anniversary is a big event in Hamburg with many maritime attractions like the ship parade and tug boat ballet. In addition, there are numerous activities on land.

3rd July - 4th July 2020: Schlagermove
A big street party in St. Pauli. Back to the 70s (big hair, loud clothes – have fun).

24th July – 23rd August 2020: Hamburger Dom
Three times a year, you can enjoy the largest fair in northern Germany (27th March – 26th April 2020; 6th November – 6th December 2020). Whether you enjoy the thrills and spills of the rides, the fruits dipped in chocolate or just the pleasure of the bright lights, this is the biggest show in town.

1st August 2020: Pride/Christopher Street Day
15,000 people take part in Hamburg's Pride parade, cheered on by 165,000 from the sidelines. Pride in Hamburg is one of the biggest celebrations in Germany and, as you might expect in a city that really knows how to party, the week can get pretty wild.

30th August – 2nd September 2020: Alstervergnügen
The Alster Festival is a very popular annual city festival. It takes place around the Alster.

16th September – 19th September 2020: Reeperbahn Festival
Why settle for one rhythm all night? On a street famed for promiscuity (and music, of course) enjoy performances from dozens of international artists to suit your mood. The festival combines live gigs with a music industry conference, so this is an ideal place to catch an up-and-coming band before they make it big. The Reeperbahn has some history to that end!

Late November – 23rd December 2020: Christmas Market
The scent of mulled wine and sausages fills the air, the laughter of children rings out through the streets, people buy all variety of knick-knacks and one-offs from the stalls. There's nothing quite like a Christmas market, and Hamburg's markets are superb.
