Our partner school is situated in a very quiet area on the Calle Naciones Unidas, also known as the “calle ricos y famosos” (the street of the rich and famous) by the locals. The school is conveniently located with shops, restaurants, medical centres, pharmacies and internet cafés all nearby. The beautiful beach, Playa Jacó, is only around 10 minutes away on foot! The language school building contains 4 classrooms, a kitchen, a large covered terrace and a small swimming pool. Outside, there is a large garden that extends over 1000m2, where students can go to relax and chat with their new friends during breaks and after class. During the high season and depending on the number of participants, the school offers extra classrooms close to the main course centre.

Testimonials

Matthias Kappler
Matthias Kappler

This was a very positive experience. I had heard a lot of positive and negative comments about the place before I arrived, but I must say I was positively surprised. Yes, it is a major tourist attraction and the beach is not the most beautiful you could ever imagine, but I realised there was much more on offer than I expected.

Although the place is not too big, there is a huge range of good restaurants, and if you want to learn how to surf, you can find a good teacher on the spot. For experienced surfers, there are great beaches just a few kilometres away. The school is also beautiful, with a pleasant garden and a swimming pool where you can refresh when it’s really hot.

The teaching was a great quality and if you get the right teacher, you can even have lessons in the garden of the school sometimes. For me, the only negative thing was that teachers were very indulgent with students who preferred to spend the afternoon on the beach rather than at the school. But all in all, I really enjoyed my stay abroad.

Garabito Apartments

General information

The student apartments are located a short walk from the language school campus and the beach in a very convenient location. Students can stroll 10 minutes to the main street where they'll find many options for restaurants, supermarkets, shops, etc. From there, it's just one more block to the sandy beach of Jacó to enjoy the sun, waves and nature. The building is located in a private complex, right across from Soda Garabito, a cheap dining option for good Costa Rican buffet-style food.

The school organises different activities to make your time in Costa Rica more enjoyable. On your arrival, a staff member will show you around the town. Following this, every second Tuesday you can participate in a Latin American dance class or, on Thursday afternoons, go on a half-day excursion to the national parks Carara and Manuel Antonio. In Playa Jaco, you can also play a multitude of sports, rent bikes or surf boards and discover the “canopy tours”. 12 km from Playa Jaco, the Villas Caletas hotel organises concerts and other shows regularly in its amphitheatre.
