Language studies abroad programs for Families: Useful information

Your tailor-made language holiday

Our programmes are intended for families with children. The teaching approach and services provided by the school are specially designed for families travelling together, so that each family member can get the most from their holiday. We will have something that meets your requirements, whether you want to travel as a couple or with your children. It's perfectly possible for grandparents or other members of the family to join the group or to stand in for parents.

A family language holiday is a unique chance to be immersed in an international context, while maintaining a certain family privacy. Adults can devote themselves to their language course programme in the mornings, safe in the knowledge that their children are being looked after by responsible teachers. Afternoons are mostly taken up with each age group's respective activities. And in the evenings, everyone meets up again to share their highlights from the day!

In short, a family language holiday with ESL is a chance to:
Enjoy a fantastic, active family holiday
Develop everyone's linguistic knowledge
Get to know a new culture
Make exciting discoveries
Meet participants from around the world in an international environment

The services we offer

The courses
Each member of the family will take part in a course that corresponds to their age group and level. On the first day, an evaluation test will take place to determine the class that best suits each person. Your lessons will be focused on communication and the acquisition of new skills. At our reputable, experienced language schools, course content is stimulating and fun and will allow each person to make progress under the best possible circumstances.

Accommodation

ESL has selected accommodation that's especially suitable for the needs of families, and different accommodation options are available in each school. By far, the two most preferred types of accommodation are renting private apartments or staying with a host family. However, we can also offer you hotels or bed & breakfasts.

Leisure

The destinations we've chosen offer a huge variety of sporting and cultural activities, whether for children, parents or even for the whole family in some destinations.

Travel

ESL will take care of your holiday from start to finish! We'll be happy to organise the reservation of your flights at a competitive price. If you wish, a transfer service can meet you upon arrival and take you to your accommodation. I spent 24 weeks at EC in Malta, for an intensive course. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I don’t regret it at all! In 6 months, my English level improved a lot. Malta is a beautiful island full of places to visit – I spent 6 months there and I wasn’t even able to see everything!

If you’re still unsure about a language stay, stop doubting and go! It will be the best experience of your life.

My stay at Kings in Boston was very successful. I loved the idea of travelling far away on my own. When I arrived at the airport, the adventure started. Kings Boston is located in a natural, beautiful setting, far from the noise of the city. Classes are provided by motivated, native teachers, and this makes the learning process faster. I improved a lot! Also, during classes we talked about interesting topics, and what’s cool is that we watched many videos, news reports and movies. I find this teaching method very practical; it’s different from the traditional ones that I experienced at school or uni. Another thing I liked a lot was that my afternoons were free, so I could explore Boston from 12:30pm until late at night. Kings gives you a lot of independence and freedom. If you want to burn off the greasy and boring food of the cafeteria, the school organises many sport activities every day, and there is also a gym (open until late). All the other activities are as cool as the sports ones: you’ll be able to spend a day in an amusement park, a weekend in Washington or New York, a night on a boat or a day at the beach (but be careful, as some activities can be very expensive, from 25 to 300 dollars).

Rooms are not luxurious – they’re basic and not great, but at least they’re big enough for two people.

In general, I spent 3 unforgettable weeks at Kings. Boston has thousands of things to offer, and if I can give you a piece of advice, travelling alone is even better, as on site you’ll meet so many people from around the world!

On 15th May 2017 I packed and went to Ireland. I was supposed to stay for 2 months and travel by myself for the first time! The transfer from the airport to my host family went well (a member of the school staff took care of it). This is where I realised that my English was pretty bad and that my very French accent was a big barrier.

My host family was adorable and gave me a city map, explaining which buses I had to take and where the school was.

The first day was frightening. Luckily, the school organised some group activities every day (which allowed me to make new friends) and excursions every weekend. In addition, the teachers did their best to help us integrate.

Ireland (despite some negative aspects, such as the rain, greasy food and some dirty streets in the capital) is a marvellous country with incredible landscapes and a warm and open-minded population.

After my first month with a host family, I decided to move to a student residence. ESL and ISI were super quick and effective with this change.

At the end of my trip, I had improved my English a lot (B1 > B2), and I can say that in Dublin, I had one of the most enriching experiences of my entire life.

A couple of tips: try to avoid people who speak your native language; if you can, stay in the country for more than a month (you need at least 1 week just to get used to the new place and 1 month to feel at home); visit as many places as possible and don’t skip your classes!
