Accommodation

Host family
Cairns College of English has a very good network of host families at its disposal, who for the most part live around 15-30 minutes from the school. You will stay in a single room with half board and will have the opportunity to fully experience Australian life within a native family. The cultural and linguistic benefits of this accommodation option will largely contribute to the improvement of your level of English.

Residence "Footprints"
The Footprints residence is located on the campus of James Cook University, 40 minutes by bus from the city centre and 15 minutes from Palm Cove Beach, and is consists of several shared apartments. All of the building is equipped with a WiFi connection. You will stay in a single room and will share the bathroom and the living room equipped with a TV with two other residents. Meals (you will benefit from full board) will be served in a spacious canteen, giving you the perfect opportunity to get to know numerous students from all backgrounds. All of the students staying in the residence will also be able to make use of a swimming pool and a volleyball court. Once a week, a cleaning service is assured. Our partner school also proposes numerous high comfort apartments.

Sylvie Frattino My name is Sylvie Frattino, I am 23 years old and I come from Vevey, Switzerland. I am currently living in Cairns, Australia for a total duration of 16 weeks. I am a student at the Cairns College of English. I started at an intermediate level and after four weeks, I was upgraded to the upper intermediate class, where I am now. The lessons are varied and deal with various topics. We work on all four language competences: listening, writing, speaking and reading. The teachers are competent and very friendly. As regards meals, we can use the cafeteria, which is equipped with a micro-wave oven. There is a computer room a well as a relaxation area with sofa and television. The school organises many activities as well as weekend excursions at very advantageous prices. Therefore, I could visit several beautiful places in this wonderful region (magnetic island, green island, cape tribulations) as well as participate in various activities (wine/cheese tasting, yoga, water-skiing,…). The atmosphere is excellent. I am having a really good time here; I’m improving my English and taking advantage of it to discover new horizons. This experience is great because it allows me to meet people from all over the world and thus get to know new cultures.
