Language school Hamburg, Colón Language Center

Founded in 1952, Colón Language Center is one of the longest established schools in Germany today. Its three buildings, located in a pedestrian area at the heart of the city, house some 50 teachers and 600 students, from both around the world and from Germany itself, as the institution is also a recognised centre for continuing education. This range of cultures reflects the ethnic diversity that Hamburg is known for. Our partner school has developed its own teaching manual, and uses numerous interactive resources to help you learn German. Students with their own laptops can benefit from the WiFi connection in the school.

Host family
Host families are all chosen with care by our partner school, and live in the city’s residential districts, around 20-45 minutes away from the school by public transport. Students stay in a single room as well as having the choice of having half board, breakfast only or free use of the kitchen included. This is the best opportunity to optimise the learning of the language whilst discovering the local way of life.

Residence (from 18 years)
Located at the heart of the city centre of Hamburg, the residence is only intended for students of the Colón Language Center. You share an apartment, which is situated in the school building Colonnaden 47 where most of the classrooms are located. The accommodation is in a single or double room. The bedrooms each have a satellite TV and a radio. The bedrooms are cleaned daily from Monday to Friday and the bedlinen is changed once a week. The bathrooms on the floor are shared by the students. In a tiny space, you will find a microwave oven to heat up dishes as well as a refrigerator. Please note: arrival and departure from the residence must take place on a Friday.

Shared apartment (from 18 years)
This accommodation option, which is very favourable from a financial point of view, is very popular in Germany and will allow you to put into practice the language learnt during classes. By living in a shared apartment (around 20–45 minutes from the school by public transport), you will get to know Germans (whether university students, single people or couples). You will stay in a single furnished room and will share the bathroom, the kitchen and the laundry room with the other flatmates. Bedlinen and bath towels will be provided for you by your hosts.

Hamburg offers a wide variety of social and sports activities. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy numerous excursions and tours of the city and its surrounds. Discover, for example, the famous Hamburg brewery or the television studios. The team at Colón Language Center is at your disposal to help you plan your free time, and also proposes trips to Lübeck, Sylt or Bremen.
