WiFi is free.

School

You will learn Italian at the heart of Verona’s historical centre, a stone’s throw away from the river Adige and from the Arena. Our partner school is located on the very premises of the Don Bosco Institute, which also hosts a private Italian school. In this peaceful place, favourable to learning, you will have the opportunity to mix with Italian students, but also with the students from the Idea Verona school, who come from the USA, Europe and Asia in order to learn Italian. On the first day, you will sit a language evaluation test (oral and written) and will be placed in a group accordingly. The lessons are given by qualified and motivated teachers in nine air-conditioned classrooms. All of the Italian courses include cultural lessons and the content can be tailor-made just for you, according to your objectives and interests, whether they are academic, professional and/or artistic. You will take advantage of the various facilities of this Italian school: a computer room, a library and a video library, a theatre, a music room with a piano, reading rooms, a cafeteria, a snack bar (open only during the breaks), and an internet access in the whole building. The school is also a recognized examination centre (two sessions are held each year). Moreover, as an Idea Verona student, you will be offered discounts in some of the city shops.

Accommodation

Host Family
Students can be accommodated in single rooms with host families. The families are carefully selected to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and usually live less than 30 minutes by foot away from the school. This accommodation type will allow you to share a true Italian family’s everyday life while practising Italian in a warm and authentic setting. You can choose between accommodation with breakfast only and accommodation with breakfast and dinner.

Shared apartment or studio
More independent students can opt for an accommodation in shared apartments near the school (about 30 minutes by foot away from the school). You will be provided with a single room and will share the apartment either with the owner (a single person or a couple) or with other students (available mainly in the summer). You will share the bathroom, the kitchen and the living room with your flatmates. Bedlinen and towels are supplied on-site free of charge.
For the students who would prefer to live on their own, the school also offers studio apartments with kitchen facilities.

Don Bosco Residence (available 03.06-01.09)
Idea Verona provides accommodation in the Don Bosco Institute itself, which is convenient since you won’t need to travel to attend your lessons in the morning. You will be provided with a single room with a private bathroom. A common kitchen is to be shared by the students. You can have your lunch at the school cafeteria for a reasonable price (between 4 and 8 euros). You will also take advantage of the Wi-Fi connection in the whole building.

Leisure

Every Wednesday, an art history teacher will take you to discover a part of the history of Verona. This two-hour outing, which focuses on a specific theme each time (Verona in the Roman times, Verona’s gardens, Art in Verona...) will allow you to see the main attractions of the city. Every week, you will also have the opportunity to attend a pizza party or to have a delicious Italian ice cream in a park in order to get to know the other students of the school. At weekends, you will be able to take part in optional activities at an extra cost. For instance, you may go to the Lake of Garda to visit the Olive oil museum, go on a boat trip on the lake, or taste the local specialties in the market that is held there at weekends. Besides, the Valpolicella and Bardolino vineyards are not far from there, which will undoubtedly appeal to the wine lovers. Day-trips to the medieval city of Mantua, with its Ducal Palace, or to the beautiful city of Venice, with its famous bridges and canals, may also be organised.

Testimonial

Victoria Strasser The place where Romeo and Juliet sealed their romantic yet tragic fate, with its typically Italian, joyful atmosphere and its friendly inhabitants – this is where I spent a week long dream holiday!

Let me introduce myself: my name is Victoria-Sophie Strasser, I am 20 and I am a law student in Vienna. Since I was at school, I have always found the Italian language to be fascinating, which is why I took Italian as my second foreign language for 3 years. But after two years of law studies in Vienna, my language studies were lagging behind and to be honest, I had forgotten much more than I wanted to.

This is why I decided, quickly (6 days before my departure) and spontaneously, to embark on a one week trip to Italy, preferably combined with a language course, and this is how I got in touch, via Internet, with ESL-Language Studies Abroad.

About spontaneity _ In fact, this is what I liked about ESL: despite the very short deadline, everything was perfectly organised, the phone calls were made right away, everything was planned and the two ladies who took care of my file were incredibly friendly and knew how to do their job effectively.

And there I was, in Italy!

I was really surprised by the school. I didn’t expect to find courses designed according to the profile of each student. At first, you sit a placement test and have a short interview with a teacher to determine your language level. Everything was carried out in a relaxed atmosphere; the teachers had a smile on their faces and made us feel comfortable. With the teacher and another student, we were three in the classroom, which greatly facilitated my language progress. Besides, on Wednesday, a professor in art history guided us through Verona, which I really enjoyed because I could get a real feel for the town, get to know how the inhabitants perceive it. In the end, we received a magnificent document attesting that we had completed the course.

For me, staying with a host family was a special experience. I’ve rarely experienced such kindness, hospitality and delicious meals at the same time! And I learnt a lot in the space of a very short time!

In short, I had wonderful holidays during which I learnt of lot and met friendly and helpful people. Finally, I think it is too bad that I didn’t extend my stay for another week.

Verona is a beautiful town, which I would like to visit again as soon as possible. It is also a great starting point to visit Lake Garda and its surroundings and there is only a short train journey to Venice, Padua and many other cities!
