Situated in an enchanting environment, where mountains and sea alternate in a display of rare natural beauty, San Remo is the most important tourist centre of the “Riviera dei Fiori” (Riviera of Flowers). The town is located in the western foothills of the Liguria Riviera which runs along the length of the Cinque Terre coastline as far Monte Carlo on the nearby Côte d’Azur. More commonly known as the “City of Peace”, San Remo has recently become home to the head office of the world association of the Nobel Peace Prize. The town is also distinguished by a cultural programme, ranging from a Jazz Festival to the Italian Song Festival, that attracts an international audience. The old town, called La Pigna, is characterised by its houses, perched in the hills, narrow streets and small squares from the Middle Ages, while the modern district, offers a savvy mix of elegance and "Dolce Vita”, something which is reflected by the famous Casino.
