Spanish school in San José - Coronado: Academia Tica

Our partner school in San José Coronado is located on the “Quinta Toyopán”, a former farm surrounded by a tropical garden in a sunny and green area. Students have 10 well-equipped classrooms, a library, a multimedia centre with computers and Internet access, a television as well as a small cafeteria at their disposal. There is also easy access for wheelchair users. During their free time, students have the possibility of renting bikes, films and various games. The qualified teachers have both wide experience of teaching their mother tongue as well as a contagious enthusiasm for Spanish. Learning is directed towards daily spoken and written communication!

Host family
Our partner school carefully selects host families who generally live around 15-30 minutes away from the school. In this way, you will share in the everyday experiences of a Costa Rican family and thus learn more about the culture, and will have the opportunity to practise your Spanish daily in a relaxed and motivating atmosphere. You will stay in a single room with half board provided. Please note that bedlinen is provided but not bath towels.

Residence
For students who wish to share with other international students during their stay, our partner school also proposes staying in a residence, which is on the same site as the school. You will stay in a single room and will share a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, TV and a tropical garden with the other residents. Please note that bedlinen is provided and that the residence also has a WiFi connection.

The school offers a free activity each afternoon. On the first day, you will enjoy an orientation tour of the capital San José; the next day, you will have a Latin dance lesson (salsa, cumbia, merengue, etc.), a cultural excursion or a cooking class where you can taste typical dishes of the region. Other activities are also offered, such as a trip to the Institute of Snakes Clodomiro Picado in Coronado, or a visit to the private sports centre in Moravia (swimming, tennis, basketball, volleyball, football, snack bar, bar and restaurant). The school has a small travel agency to provide information and to make the necessary reservations for students wishing to discover the marvels of the country during their free time. It organises half-day excursions, for example to the Irazu and Poas volcanoes, or full day and weekend trips: around the clock visits to the forest to see the animals; stays at the beach in basic hotels or 5-star establishments. Among the preferred destinations: Volcan and Lake Arenal, Monteverde, the Tortuguero National Park, the Peninsula of Nicoya, trips to the beaches Jaco, Manuel Antonio and Guanacaste.
