I had wanted to go for a several-week trip to Cuba for a long time. When I could afford it, I contacted ESL, about which I had got very positive feedback. My wishes, hopes and expectations were totally fulfilled. My host family was really nice, the lessons varied and there were a lot of leisure activities. Since it was my first trip, I needed tremendous support from the agency, which ESL provided me with. For any question, I could contact the person in charge of my file by email or telephone and I was always given expert advice.

Cigar, coffee … In Cuba, you do things that you don’t usually do. You go out of your comfort zone to discover a new world and find yourself simultaneously.

Although I visited beautiful countries such as Jordan, Egypt and Cambodia, Cuba is the one I liked the most. It is not always easy to face the poverty and frustration of Cubans for whom life is difficult but I was dazzled by their joy of living, which they express through their dances. Music follows you everywhere and whenever you hear Afro-Caribbean sounds, there is dancing. Everyone at the school shared a common passion for salsa. The Spanish classes gave us the opportunity to meet other students, but I found the teaching methods to be a bit old fashioned. There was a good atmosphere at the school thanks to the salsa classes and the efforts of Sergio, the instructor and organiser. I would not say that everything was perfect but the new experiences and friendships remain unforgettable.

I hope to go back to Cuba as soon as possible. In the meantime, I continue taking Spanish and salsa lessons and I keep in touch with my friends of all ages and nationalities who share the same passion as me – dancing.
