"I do not have the magnificent richness of colouring that animates nature" Cézanne, 1906

The yellow of the sunflowers in June, that of the mimosas in February, the blue of the lavender fields and the paintings of Cézanne...Aix en Provence, a magnificent festival of colours, of light and of perfumes. Read more...
The former Roman city was born on a side of the Arc valley, facing due south, which explains the quality of light which Cézanne loved so much when he was painting the Sainte-Victoire which dominates the city from afar. Close to perfection, the urban art in Aix-en-Provence confers with the spaces and the atmospheres of the streets and squares whose charm is absolutely unique. In this way, its narrow small streets, its multicoloured facades, its fountains and its markets attract visitors from the four corners of the planet. A city of water, a city of arts, Aix-en-Provence is also, with almost 30,000 students, a university city which is young, lively and overflowing with energy. The natural and cultural heritage which surround it lends itself to discoveries, including the historical cities of Arles, Avignon and Nimes, the French Riviera, the natural sites of the Camargue, of Lubéron, the Verdon Gorges and of course, Mount Sainte-Victoire which makes the inhabitants of Aix proud, the beaches and the Massif des Calanques of the Mediterranean which are only 30 minutes away. In order to learn French, of course, and for the greatest pleasure of the eyes and the palate, bienvenue à Aix-en-Provence! Return to introduction...
