As I wanted to improve my level of German, I chose Berlin as my destination and as was to be expected, it didn’t disappoint. It was the second time I came here, but this time for a longer stay and with the desire to learn as much as possible. I stayed with a very welcoming family, who also only lived five minutes from the school. I think this is the best option if you want to continue practising the language. The school is very close to the city centre and it should be said that public transport in Berlin is excellent. The classes are really entertaining, and the good relationship between the students and teacher make the hours fly by. Without a doubt, I completely recommend this experience since beyond learning the language, you can also discover this wonderful city.

In general, I can sum up my experience as very positive on a personal level as well as on an academic level, although I do have to say that being a two-week course, it went by very quickly and I couldn’t even achieve the A1 level. But that being said, I want to thank the Alpadia school and the teaching staff because in general, they were amazing and highly competent. The school was very clean, orderly and highly organised. The best part was the wide mix of student nationalities where in addition to German, I was able to practise my English and Italian.
Regarding my host family, they were a 10 (a very polite married couple that I grew very fond of over the two weeks). In spite of the language barrier and age difference, they made me feel right at home, and it was very close to the academy, not even a 5-minute walk away.

So, like I said before, if I had to rate my experience it would be as “very recommendable”. The only “but” I would add is the area of the extracurricular activities and excursions, which were in need of improvement. I would have loved to spend more time with the students in the other classes and levels, with some type of interaction. Otherwise I was very happy to have taken part in this experience.

I chose Berlin because, even though I had already been to Germany, I had never visited the city and I reckoned that finishing my studies was the perfect moment to live a new experience. My German knowledge is very basic but, since I got here, I’ve improved a lot more than I expected. The teachers plan each lesson carefully and they encourage us to participate, even those of us who are starting from scratch! It’s great to have different teachers because each one has a different methodology and the lessons are fun.

It wasn’t that easy at the beginning, but I soon met a lot of people. In fact, on the first day some members of the staff took us on a tour around the city and introduce the programme. Thanks to the activity programme, I got to know the other students better and discovered the many wonders of incredible Berlin. I totally recommend this experience and, if I had to take another course, I would go back to Alpadia… no doubt!

My stay in Berlin was my first experience abroad. I was quite worried about what was going to happen to me once there. Looking back, I now realize that there is nothing to be afraid about! Berlin is a very interesting city, whether it’s for it architecture, its numerous museums, its multiculturalism or its fascinating history. Furthermore, it is a safe city in which you feel at ease. And that is very pleasant! As for the school, it’s great: the teachers are very nice, dynamic, attentive and the school’s equipment is modern and in good condition. Also, it’s located in a quiet area of the capital… Very positive experience!

From the moment I contacted ESL to ask for information about a language course abroad, they treated me wonderfully. Before leaving, the team helped me chose the best options and organise my trip.

I loved Berlin; it’s a wonderful city! I chose to stay in a shared apartment, which was only a 10 minutes’ walk away from the school – or just 5 minutes by bus. The lady with whom I shared the apartment was lovely and very caring; she made sure that I had the best stay possible.

The course at Alpadia Berlin was very well planned. We were grouped up according to our German level and the teachers were prepared to work with students of different nationalities… Plus, I met people with whom I had a really great time.

There was no time to get bored, because Alpadia Berlin organises tons of optional activities and excursions that allow you to spend more time with your classmates a enjoy the city. I hadn’t felt so sad to have to go back home in quite a while!

Don’t think twice, you’ll love ESL and you’ll love the school! It was an experience that I’ll never forget.

Whether it be at the school or in the streets of Berlin, people were very pleasant and I had a something interesting to do everyday. In Berlin, there are millions of things to see because the city is great, from the impressive Kurfürstendamm to Kreuzberg, a more alternative area. For me, the best aspect was the atmosphere. But the many contrasts that characterize this city are very interesting and give it a special charm.

When it comes to learning a language like German, everything looks very difficult. Maybe that’s the reason why I chose Berlin as the city to face my German learning. I lived there for 14 weeks and I’d do anything to stay 14 more.

I’ve been in Berlin for 5 weeks now. I’m taking a standard course and it’s going great! It’s going so well that I can probably finish this course on a C1 level. All teachers are young and enthusiastic, and the quality of the lessons is good.

I’m staying in a WG in Schöneberg, on a 15 minutes walk from the school. Schöneberg is a respectable and quiet neighbourhood, so it’s nice to live there.

I swim a lot on weekdays, and on some Tuesdays I go to the “Stammtisch”. The “Stammtisch” is an activity organised by the school, during which you will visit a pub or biergarten.
In the weekends I often go to discotheques in Friederichshain en Kreuzberg in the east of Berlin. I can really recommend Suicide Circus and Salon Zur Wilde Renate!

I will be in Berlin for 7 more weeks and I really like it here! I’m even looking for a job so I can stay longer!

What can be best for studying German than to go to Berlin? It’s a very dynamic city and you can do many things at low cost. This trip is the best experience of my life. Living alone in a city where you don’t speak the language, and having to manage on your own (even if the school is here to help you in case of a problem), was a real adventure for me. The school provided us with very good basis in German but it is mostly by going out and meeting people that I made progress. Berlin has lost nothing of its alternative side and all the music and art fans will be more than satisfied with what it has to offer. An unforgettable trip!

Hello! My name is Sergi Yagüe. I wanted to improve my German (because I am currently studying tourism) and I hence got in contact with the ESL agency in Barcelona. I went there to get some information and finally booked a one-month course and accommodation in Berlin.

My stay went perfectly: the school is right next to the apartment where I was staying and very close to downtown. I loved the shared apartment: my room was quite big and the owner was very nice. We often had meals together and I even took part in the family activities! I also enjoyed life with the other students living in the house.

The courses are very dynamic and entertaining and the teachers are nice. I highly recommend this school!

I spent one month here and it has been such a great experience! Berlin is a beautiful city where you can find everything you need and where life is easy! The school was great, with experienced teachers and I learned a lot! I also got along very well with my host mom, who was very kind, helpful and talkative with foreign students and with whom I could always practise my German skills!

In Berlin, I was surprised to see Europe’s biggest and most modern railway station: Berlin Hauptbahnhof.

Talking about Berlin means, first and foremost, talking about a cosmopolitan, ever-changing city, which transforms itself day after day. It uses its history and, above all, the lessons it has learnt from it. This is the reason why you find so many historical monuments here, which remind us of the major steps in Germany’s history and highlight the evolution and tolerance of the modern German society.

The school is located very close to “Julius” station, which takes you in around 10 minutes to Potsdamer Platz, a strategic hub to get to the Brandenburg Gate and Victoria Tower. After visiting the city’s major tourist attractions, get lost in its various districts and immerse yourself in Berlin’s local life. The German capital is brimming with culture, nature and delicious dishes, and the famous local beer can be consumed at unbeatable prices here.

Berlin is a city you can discover a bit more everyday, perfect for a language course. I am very happy I had the opportunity to experience it and I recommend future students to visit it because it really is a beautiful city.

I spent 5 action-packed months in Berlin. You never know what to expect here, the city is so full of surprises. When something unusual happens, like people dancing at the entrance of the metro with an improvised DJ, all you can say is: “this is Berlin!”
Alpadia is well located, close to many cosy restaurants, and the area is beautiful. Besides, the school offers many activities and outings every week, which allows you to meet more people and further discover the city. For me, Berlin means: crazy evenings, art galleries and black & white pictures taken from a photo booth… Viel Spass!

I had been dreaming about taking a sabbatical for a long time, I took advantage of learning languages by travelling. ESL offers a multilingual year programme that suited my project perfectly. Therefore, I started with a 3-month course in Rome, followed by a 3-month course in Berlin and I finished with 6 unforgettable months in Australia and New Zealand. I could not sum up a year so rich in experiences and encounters! All in all, I reached my goal to be able to communicate in different languages!

At first, I wasn’t very motivated to take a German language course abroad. I didn’t like the language. Once on site, I changed my mind radically and I was very happy to be there. My language skills improved significantly and quickly. I met people from different parts of the world and I learnt a lot thanks to them. I went to Freiburg and then Berlin: the two towns are very different but they are both charming. Freiburg is a peaceful and green town with excellent nightlife. Berlin is bursting with people, history, parties and discoveries. This trip remains a very positive experience and I wish it wasn’t over.

I chose this destination as I had always heard that Berlin was a magnificent capital to discover. To begin with, ESL perfectly organised my stay: the classes, the accommodation and the transfer from the airport which went very well. At the school, I met many new friends and we were able to visit the city and enjoy spending a good time together. The cost of living in Berlin is a lot lower that in Switzerland, especially for food! Within the school, there is a good atmosphere and the teachers are fun. It is pleasant to study in this relaxed atmosphere. I have already studied in 2 other schools, but IH Prolog is the best! I'm thinking about staying here for another few months in order to perfect me German.
