International House Newcastle is one of Britain’s most-respected language teacher training centres, with over thirty years’ experience. The original International House teacher training certificates became the basis for the internationally acknowledged Cambridge CELTA and DELTA qualifications.

The large school is situated in grade 1 and grade 2 listed buildings, meaning that they are of special historical interest and beauty. The interiors were completely refurbished in 2010 and include 16 classrooms, an impressive Personal Study Programme suite and a large student cafe selling fair-trade items. As IH Newcastle is in the city centre, great shopping streets, restaurants, pubs and bars are all within walking distance.

Testimonials

I completed my CELTA at IH Newcastle in December 2010 and had a fabulous time at the school. The tutors are extremely helpful and approachable and despite the course being really intense you never feel that you're on your own. The students at the school are great and teaching them provides you with brilliant hands on experience, although it can be rather daunting at first. You teach a class every other day which certainly keeps you out of mischief but after each lesson you are provided with in-depth feedback and ways to improve and hone your skills. During the CELTA I stayed in Charlotte House which I would thoroughly recommend. Staying there enabled me to socialise and meet more of the students when I wasn't too busy writing my assignments and lesson plans. I'm now teaching English in Italy and am amazed at how much I learned by completing the CELTA. If you're interested in teaching English abroad, working hard but having a good time, then this is the course for you.

Host family
All families selected by the school live around 15 minutes away from the school building and offer accommodation in a single room with half board provided. This is a great way to get the most out of your stay as you will be completely immersed in the English culture and language.

Newcastle 1 residence
In the heart of Newcastle, a 5-minute walk from the language school, this residence offers two types of accommodation: single rooms with private bathroom in a shared apartment or private studios with bathroom and kitchenette. The first option is ideal if you like sharing common areas – like the kitchen, the living room and the dining room – with other international guests. If you prefer keeping some independence, the second option is probably what you need. Free Wi-Fi, Sky TV, a laundry room, a gym, a study room and a garden are at your disposal.
